Forget the fact that whenever one of the big two has had to settle for inferior wingers, it's usually (always?) Geno.

Uh, Malkin and Crosby have about split the best wingers that have been in Pittsburgh.

Crosby had Kunitz and Guentzel, while Malkin had Kessel and Neal. Both played a lot with Hornqvist and Rust. Who am I really missing that was here for a good amount of time?

Seeing Letang come in at $6.1 million AAV has me feeling like it's just a matter of hours before Geno is announced as re-signed. I wouldn't sweat it. There's still a week until FA, it'll get done.

The real issue is whether or not the team is actually gonna be improved upon, not just brought back with roughly the same roster. That's gonna take some surgical removals of guys like Zucker, Dumo, and Petts with additions of significant magnitude--particularly to that 2nd line.

True, but when Crosby wants a guy on his line, he gets him. When he *doesn't* want a guy on his line, that guy's days are numbered.

Malkin's never had anything close to that kind of clout. Maybe some will say he shouldn't have that authority, and "Sid's the captain", etc. but when it comes to a choice of linemates when has Malkin ever made demands? Much less, demands which were actually honored?

Much like Hextall can negotiate several contracts... We can negotiate shitposting about multiple players.

But no for real Letang deal is outstanding. And I'll try to refrain from baggin' on the team about letting Malkin walk until they actually do it. I guess a lot of takes on the guy throughout this process have really rankled and I have a hard time keeping my big mouth shut.

I think this is grossly overblown. We have no evidence that Crosby is pulling the strings regarding his linemates.

Malkin has had the shittier linemates in the last few years because the Zucker and Kapanen acquisitions have been busts and Sullivan is really insistent on keeping GCR together. But the idea that he's drawn the short straw with linemates hasn't been true since like 2013, when he was getting a rotating cast of Tangradi, Boychuck and whatever other waiver claim to play with him and Neal.

I think Crosby makes statements (whether asked or throws it out there) not demands but coaches will make the move.

Sid doesn’t need the best wingers he just gets super frustrated if he doesn’t gel with his wingers even if they produce well (eg Hornqvist).

Do you really want your best player and face of the franchise playing frustrated? No so the coach makes a move.

Seems more a personality thing. Usually there’s options but as of right now it’s Jake & Rust and that’s it.

Is he though? People want some type of change. Even though this type would be bringing back an old player haha. DeSmith unavailable 2 straight playoffs. Jarry hurt for one, sucked the other. MAF NEVER hurt. Again not something I’m losing sleep over but.
