Off season time. New thread time apparently cause @Ugene Magic doesn’t like high page counts.

So how about them Malkin and Letang UFAs? Maybe we should sign one or both.

Geno thread. Keep Geno talk here:

Ya which is why I have no faith in Hextall. He seemed only consumed by the Letang deal and did nothing else.
I think putting all the blame on Hextall isn't entirely correct. Ownership, if they wanted, could've given him some direction as to what they want instead of vague, PR, media-speak bullshit like "We're trying to win Cups."

I think Geno would be very helpful on the PP in the playoffs. Despite what hot garbage the first powerplay was against NYR this last year.

I don't think GCR nor Letang are great powerplay players. Geno's shot isn't what it was but there's no other lefty bomb available. Maybe we try Matheson but I don't think his slapper is all that accurate TBH.
Well it didn't help enough the last 4 years to win a round. Why is it different in year 5?

I can't set a minimum filter for PP minutes played, but Sid is something like 5th in the NHL among regulars in PPP/P60 the last 2 years combined.
Considerably better rate than Malkin actually.

He's a 7.86 and Malkin's a 6.72. Let's not sell Sid short.

That being said, Geno's still up there in the league as well.

I don't think Matheson's shot would be the core problem. That for me is fairly good... the wrister especially.
It's the distribution and puck handling. He could be a giveaway king. He led the league once in that category in Florida.

But at least he has the blazing speed to recover on the backcheck.

4. Dreger is wrong

We’re getting a little out of control. i would just be patient and let this play out. Getting overly emotional about how someone f***ed up before FA even begins is insane.

everyone Should log off until 7:10pm tomorrow.

I sign out for 60min and you wankers go nuts.

So:
- Dreger is a smuck, dont trust him at all
- Hex screwed around with Geno and Geno is firing back, dont blame him
- I think this is Geno stabbing back in the knife fight, hes pissed at either the front office, the media or both and this is going to make the fans want blood
- this will get Sid involved if hes not already, tomorrow Hex offers up something else and Geno signs

The only thing I would be disappointed about is how it ended, AGAIN. Yeah, we got what we wanted with the Cups, but then we had to deal with another acrimonious ending? I will admit I wanted the storybook ending. Something like should end over momentous things, not half a million here or there because somebody thought they could play hardball until the last second.
We don’t know anything.

we do this same thing every year. Rossi and dreger are idiots, we all say, but then they say something we don’t like and we all act like it’s the word of god.

Ehh I think they wanted him to come up with a direction and he didnt. If he wanted to rebuild then he should have stuck to his guns. He seems wishy washy.

I get that, I more mean why do they even want to retain his rights in the first place more than anything.

Not qualifying Bellerive after he had 29 points in 72 games but qualifying Bjorkqvist who had 12 points in 54 games is just a bit odd.

I watched danm near every WBS game last year; Bellerive provided a useful element aside from his scoring (as if his role was simply that of a scorer to begin with).

But being anything other than plain vanilla is considered as a negative rather than a positive in Mike Sullivan's organization. It may not amount to much, but Bellerive in the right circumstances (i.e. on some other team) could at least be the "Mark Friedman" of bottom-6 forwards, and at a cheap cost. He's far from totally useless offensively as well.

Rossi is full of shit. If he knew this he would have said so earlier.

It's not like this just broke and Rossi called Geno on speed dial at dinner time in was like yo Geno what do you want me to put in the biography about the Dreger quote

agreed. I think sports manufactures a lot of media driven dislike between teams and players that is really just pretty healthy competition. I don't think that's what exists between Sid and Giroux. I feel like they genuinely dislike eachother.

The difference between Letang and Malkin in the eyes is Hextall is probably that Malkin has been super injured in the last 2 years and hasn't been playing up to his standards, while Letang has had 2 great and healthy years with Hextall as the GM. It's not really a surprise for why Hextall was so unwilling to negotiate with Malkin sooner, Malkin only gave him like 70 games played in the last 2 seasons combined.

Well FSG's a buncha schmucks and this team's in way worse a spot than any of us realized if they want to continue to gun for Cups at all costs, but didn't replace *Hextall* of all people as GM.

Only reason I think it's different this time is Rossi seems to have been Barry's microphone during the whole process.

Bro, I'd be the best/worst GM. My ADHD, while a curse, also gives me a multitasking ability.

I'd be on the phone with both Letang and Genos agent dosing up my adderall. Chugging my 5th coffee of the day.

On my burner phone I'm trying to send an anonymous tip to the feds that ZAR likes to pedal the booger sugar in his spare time.

Nobody. Not even Geno.

The team needed to be clearing cap by moving guys like Zucker and Petts in-season, and Dumo at the draft for like a 2nd or 3rd. They needed to land someone of Forsberg's caliber for the 2nd line.

None of the cap shuffle happened, so this team was always destined to be a rerun of the same garbage we've watched for the past few years. Geno or no Geno. /shrug

I think this is where I'm more disappointed. It's not necessarily losing Geno (if he doesn't re-sign), it's the fact that our roster looks the exact same as last year except we also lost Geno on top of it.

This team needed to cut its dead weight. If they'd done that AND Geno had left, I'd be more optimistic. As it is, the only major shake-up they've made is letting Geno walk.

Same. I would be finding ways to tamper (even if its not allowed) because I wouldnt sit still.
