Nobody. Not even Geno.

The team needed to be clearing cap by moving guys like Zucker and Petts in-season, and Dumo at the draft for like a 2nd or 3rd. They needed to land someone of Forsberg's caliber for the 2nd line.

None of the cap shuffle happened, so this team was always destined to be a rerun of the same garbage we've watched for the past few years. Geno or no Geno. /shrug

It is intriguing what hextall and Burke could do with all that cap room. I bet he’s still trying to move Petts or Marino also.

I think people like you and me, older dudes who have seen some shit, like, 2016-17 should never have happened. 2011-2013 should have been when they got 2 more. So you get that magic, holy shit. Yeah, 3 is probably too few, but 3 is a ton, so no matter what, we had it. in a weird way, I’m just less emotionally invested because of it. Got what I wanted. If it’s over, it’s over.

i don’t think it’s over, but if it is, I’m just not gonna get too worked up over it

Not directed towards you but rather others with the attitude, "Well Geno had the opportunity and he could have taken the money! After all he's rich".

That could all be true, and he could still be dicked around Hextall and Pens mgmt on this one. You don't do that to a franchise legend. This is a pride thing, not a $250k / year thing.

agreed. I think sports manufactures a lot of media driven dislike between teams and players that is really just pretty healthy competition. I don't think that's what exists between Sid and Giroux. I feel like they genuinely dislike eachother.

I wonder if Hextall ever attempted to negotiate with him until he signed Letang. Like that would have been a real dick move.

I just really hope the Penguins don't wait on Malkin to make a decision on his plans for next year. Make a final offer sometime in the next few days that is the absolute max you can do (I'd imagine it's something like $6.5 million a year for 4 years), and say "this is your offer to come back, but if you don't accept it by July 14th, we're pulling it".

They can't afford to miss out on Kadri or Trocheck because they're waiting on Malkin.

Ya which is why I have no faith in Hextall. He seemed only consumed by the Letang deal and did nothing else.

The only thing I would be disappointed about is how it ended, AGAIN. Yeah, we got what we wanted with the Cups, but then we had to deal with another acrimonious ending? I will admit I wanted the storybook ending. Something like should end over momentous things, not half a million here or there because somebody thought they could play hardball until the last second.
