But ya in all seriousness it doesn't seem good unless the media "leaked" numbers are way off or Geno just doesn't necessarily want to play here and test the market. I find it hard to believe they would squash a deal or Geno would hault it over less than a million unless he's truly pissed off how it was handled.

LeBron gives 0 farks about hockey. Despite what some BS pieces from ESPN and whatnot would probably say when trying to build hype around getting the NHL back.

Nor am I saying LeBron should care, either.

Seriously well put. I think with how much life has changed for me recently, I'm just enjoying the ride and i'll love every second of it. If we miss the playoffs, hey... longer summers for me. If we make the playoffs... hey cool family moments watching hockey like old times!

He's not going to make rookie mistakes over a couple hundred thousand dollars. He obviously thinks Malkin will make a lot more on the open market and he is almost certainly correct. It was always going to come down to whether the discount the team asked for was too steep for Malkin to accept despite his desire to retire here. He was willing to take a discount but not the level the team asked for obviously. At a certain point, his sentiment about staying would never outweigh money. We don't know what that point is but it's probably around 6M.

I'm not blaming Geno if you think that is what I am doing.

I have stated way back when that I think Geno showed his cards that he wanted to stay here an b/c Hex has no loyalty to Geno only FSG he was going to play that card and try to get Geno on the cheap. I said it was playing with fire and while I know it's not over yet it's looking like it could have backfired

Yeah, being the assumed goalie savior of a small market like Toronto is gonna do wonders for a guy whose confidence is cratered and he's been trying to stabilize his mental game for years. :laugh:

I wish Murray the best, but holy shit, is that ever the wrong spot for him to regain any footing.
