Off season time. New thread time apparently cause @Ugene Magic doesn’t like high page counts.

So how about them Malkin and Letang UFAs? Maybe we should sign one or both.

Geno thread. Keep Geno talk here:

Lets say or top 6 is cemented as

Guentzel Crosby Rakell (fingers crossed)
Zucker Malkin Rust

That leaves 1 spot in the top 6 if they trade Zucker for Heinen/Kap/Erod. Kapanen had the worst season of those 3, but has had a slightly better career. I wonder if Kapanen would cost us the least amount of those players. If that were the case I might side towards keeping him, if it were between those 3. Heinen, to me, is the best fit of those 3.

Historically, for the Pens, Kapanens performance has been tied to how well he's playing with Malkin at the time.
Heinen plays well with everyone he plays with
Erod is a spaz who does his own thing, and doesn't really have chemistry with anyone

I mean, if you're signing one tweener for the team, Heinen is the smart money choice/sensible signing, Kap has slightly better physical tools (in some sense) but it's looking doubtful he'll put them together (but might be cheaper for it), Erod is gone.

They all kind of say that, but yeah, he mentioned it in the locker room clean out.

Honestly, I'd much rather have Heinen over McGinn.

The problem is we are already the softest team in the league. Move McGinn? Sure. Who do you bring in? Heinen is just another body.

The point is moot because Hextall will qualify him, and then of course bring back Dominik Simon and Zach Aston-Reese.

I'm a long-standing proponent of us bringing in some bangers, but I think we can do that AND move McGinn if we're going to relegate him to 4th line duty.

If any of Zucker, Heinen, Kapanen or Rodrigues are in our top six, we are not winning a thing.

Crosby and Malkin need help. Real help, because they cannot carry this team forever.

Taking a page from 2008, we need a third offensive wheel.

Not advocating for it, but I could see some sense in the Giroux idea. He'd be on about the same timeline as the rest of the core, flexible (C/LW), right wall on PP.

That said, the stars would have to align for it to be even remotely possible.

Oh sorry. I’d say 90% Trocheck, 10% Kadri. Loooooots of smoke on Trocheck. dunno if kadri interest is real or just speculation because of need and Burke.

If they have any possibility at Kadri, I would push year four for geno and try to get him to take less.

Kadri 8.5
Letang 6.1
Malkin 5.5

20 mill for those three would be a hell of a summer for Hextall

Wasn't he one of people peddling MAF to Pittsburgh possible even after we signed CDS?!?!
Yep he was. He loves to throw out a saucy rumor or two but he always hedges it so it looks like he's being prudent. But he's usually just wrong.

Also, he looks so insufferably smug in every picture, I just can't help but dislike the man.

We need changes but still want to re-sing Erod Heinen and maybe KK ?
I believe that Malkin will re-sign shortly, Rakell should be a must to keep, so we re-sign the RFA, D remain the same (minus possibly a trade), goalies are the same, so what? Boyle is the only odd man out?!

I would let our RFA walk since it's too dangerous to go in arbitration, maybe circle back in FA, but a couple of new forward are a must to refresh the team. If we have cap space bring in someone from FA otherwise give Zohorna, O'Connor and Puustinen a chance to compete for at least a spot would not be so bad after all.

It's not like we sucked badly last two post-season, but the result are the same 4 straight years.

Take note ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ this "giskard" get's it!

Could Hex actually be a mad genius? Sign all of our FA's, team tanks........trades them for huge value to contenders? maybe......? possible?

Don't pee in my cornflakes........it's monday

LOL, I was reading this and my thought was Sid, Geno and Letang standing in a line. :)

Don’t think malkin goes under 6. 6 is already a major concession in his eyes

I can’t imagine they can afford him. Like some people are speculating he gets 10. But two different people I know (from the media, non Pittsburgh) told me they want him.
It's not impossible, just improbable, you're right.

That said, if that's really in the cards I'd try to pull out all the stops for a Geno discount and dump Zucker for a 7th.

Kadri feels like the type of player who won't hit 60 again. Got nothing to back that up with, but I'd rather not pay him for his 87 point season :D

Sure but it depends on how the contract is structured too. If you give him 4, the full ntc and make it front loaded you might be able to get him to give up the 2million.
