Off season time. New thread time apparently cause @Ugene Magic doesn’t like high page counts.

So how about them Malkin and Letang UFAs? Maybe we should sign one or both.

Geno thread. Keep Geno talk here:

If any of Zucker, Heinen, Kapanen or Rodrigues are in our top six, we are not winning a thing.

Crosby and Malkin need help. Real help, because they cannot carry this team forever.

Taking a page from 2008, we need a third offensive wheel.
If Hextall somehow comes through with a massive trade for Laine/Tarasenko, I will take back anything I ever said about him.

I think whoever pays Kadri 8 mil AAV+ or whatever is gonna regret it. He is certainly a good player - if a little dirty - but the odds of a guy his age suddenly becoming a consistent point per game player are slim to none. I have to think he'll regress to being a 50 or 60 point guy next year and beyond.

Game is getting faster and faster. AVS is fastest team I have ever seen. They need to get players in their twenties. I'm not big fan of Kapanen but he can play fast

Dude had to leave these boards because he got hammered so much on how awful he was.

Kap getting a QO and Heinen not would make sense just because of how arbitration would go.

I don’t mind Kap as much as others do and I think he has a skill set that is easy to trade as well.

Doesn't matter, Kingerski still sucks.

That said Molinari has some connections, but he's not always as plugged in as he used to be so... :dunno: At the end of the day, I can see why they might go with Kap. But I'm not real hopeful about him turning it around.

And as @OnMyOwn points out, Kap is probably pretty movable if he manages to pull his head out of his ass for a game or two, with his pedigree and his physical skills.

Not qualitfying Heinen...damn. They better have a good backup plan. For $1.1mil, scoring 18 goals playing on L1 through L4, they're gonna goof if they think they'll get that out of any ol' player. $3mil may be much for him realistically but looking at what standard mid-20s that are 20g scorers, it's not out of line.

Kapanen's QO is so low, I think you qualify him and then negotiate.

Trochek seems like a super obvious target, especially if Letang and Geno are coming in cheaper and we can move one of Zucker or Pettersson.

Jake-Sid-Rust
Rakell-Trocheck-Malkin

would be a great top 6.

I'm just worried we are going to lose a bunch of our quality depth scorers, sign "new" ones, and then not have them perform.

We've kind of figured out what Kap is so I'm okay having him around as long as he gets paid comensurate with what he actually is as opposed to what people think he could maybe someday think about possibly becoming.

There are plenty of NHL GMs that would take a flier on him just due to his age/skillset

If he could ever turn anything around and be consistent he would be very valuable. I know its a longshot but he is still solid. Seems like a great kid as well and he knows he's not living up to expectations. Hopefully this offseason he was all over the HGH :D

Consumers get the crappy hockey media because that's what sells. That is what people buy over and over. That's why I'm cynical about Taylor staying a great beat reporter here because in the end the market's gonna grind her down, like it ground down JB, Molinari, and... even D.K! It's weird to remember that he was once a really good cub reporter for the Pens and then the Pittsburgh media market somehow warped him.
I'm not so sure I blame the market on DK. He had some success doing his thing and he got his head so far up his own ass as a result that he's where he is now.

Taylor doesn't seem to at least outwardly have a bad ego so maybe she'll come through ok.

Rossi, Yohe, and DK all have horrible egos and it shines through in their work. Jesse and Taylor either don't or if they do they at least keep their egos in check while writing and try to be as objective as possible. That's why they're good and the former three are not so much.

Yeah Kap on L3 for like McGinn money is great even if he f***s up. Kap on L2 for Carter money and playing like he's in the AHL is not.
