Off season time. New thread time apparently cause @Ugene Magic doesn’t like high page counts.

So how about them Malkin and Letang UFAs? Maybe we should sign one or both.

Geno thread. Keep Geno talk here:

They are still $6M apart then.
Yeah, but I think Geno will probably end up folding and taking the 3 year deal. Not to say that it isn't a lot of money or anything, but that at the end of the day 18 million to retire a Pen is better than 24 million to retire as a Red Wing.

Again, no inside information here, just gut feeling/prognosticating.

New article from Yohe…

- Hextall and Malkin agree on $6M but Hextall continues to want only three years while Malkin continues to want four. Yohe doesn’t give an indication one way or the other as to whether he thinks it gets done.

- Yohe makes it clear everyone in the organization wants him back but they’re concerned about the health aspect of it.

- Pens are probably going to qualify Heinen. Heinen wants 3M though and the Pens don’t want to do that but will look to compromise.

- 50/50 as to whether they qualify Kapanen.

- Hextall has some trade offers on the table to consider. They want to move salary to re-sign Rakell and they do want to re-sign him. Gotta move that salary before attempting to do so. It does look like Rakell hits open market.

- If they can’t re-sign Rakell, looking to sign a significant UFA to replace him. Doesn’t provide any names.
As well as Heinen played last year 3 million is too much for him. I want a top 6 player Heinen can play up but should not be a staple in our top 6, especially the way its built

Way to go out on a limb Yohe and say that if RR isn't signed they are going to get another significant player. I mean you lose a top 6 guy you need one to replace or your going backwards.

Not at $3 M though…he could get that after arbitration…I think he doesnt get a QO

I don't disagree.

Heinen and ERod had fine seasons. I don't want to pay either of them over 2.5 though. After that we're better off giving someone like DOC more minutes instead to save some cap space for a trade deadline acqusition. I like Heinen more than ERod, but I won't be sad to see either go if they price themselves out.

ERod especially, he's not matching that production again. He produced as well as he did becauise of injuries and playing more minutes with better players. If he did that exclusively from the bottom 6 it would be a different story, but that just seems like it'll be a contract set up for disapointment.

We need changes but still want to re-sing Erod Heinen and maybe KK ?
I believe that Malkin will re-sign shortly, Rakell should be a must to keep, so we re-sign the RFA, D remain the same (minus possibly a trade), goalies are the same, so what? Boyle is the only odd man out?!

I would let our RFA walk since it's too dangerous to go in arbitration, maybe circle back in FA, but a couple of new forward are a must to refresh the team. If we have cap space bring in someone from FA otherwise give Zohorna, O'Connor and Puustinen a chance to compete for at least a spot would not be so bad after all.

It's not like we sucked badly last two post-season, but the result are the same 4 straight years.

the Pens should up their offer if they’re insistent on 3 years….3x7…that still brings Letang and Geno in at $13M, beautiful….

Malkin signing watch day 363: damn, is anything gonna happen?

I would do the opposite. Lower the AAV give him 4 years.
5.5 x 4 and give him the NMC.

You can swallow that cap in 4 years if he doesn't play and the team sucks.

Giroux Could Be The Backup Plan if Malkin Moves On

The Penguins Sid Crosby and Claude Giroux are surprisingly close despite being on the opposite sides of the battle of Pennsylvania for some time now. Don’t completely count out a return to Philly if Gaudreau stays in Calgary.

“They agree on the money. Everyone wants him back. The difference is one year.“

yall gettin sucked in by manufactured drama.

Sure its manufactured but it still needs done. If it is the thing holding up all of Hextalls over moves then its a big issue.

I’ll give names. I expect the Pens to sign one of the top FA C in addition to Malkin. Don’t know if that means that means Geno to the wing or what.
Which makes a lot of sense. It's an insurance if Geno is not going to play up to his abilities or gets injured. You can also play them in a rotation to keep the tough minutes down over the span of a season.

We already have plenty of less-than-spectacular players who get paid $2-3 million. Please let's move in a different direction for the makeup of this team.

Heinen, KK, E-Rod are not game-changers and never will be. Replace their spots with WBS or UFA signings in the $1million ball-park.

And I like Heinen. But if his ask is 3 milly that makes the decision all the much easier.

They could but Hex needs to save as much money as he can, he wants to ice a better team. Just my opinion but he knows Geno wants to play here and hes going to leverage that to build the best team he can.

Along with Geno I'd prefer Trocheck. Why do we want to have a run on 36 yr old centers.
