Off season time. New thread time apparently cause @Ugene Magic doesn’t like high page counts.

So how about them Malkin and Letang UFAs? Maybe we should sign one or both.

Geno thread. Keep Geno talk here:

The local media sucks here but how are they supposed to have any inside info when our GM is afraid to talk to people and was known for his closed door policy while working for the Flyers? Short of bugging his office, what can they do?

Get used to only hearing the players’ side of stories from now on.

I think you have to take in consideration that Geno played the season without having a real pre season. I expect him to have a better season 22/23 and it will be even better if he's playing with Rakell/Rust or any competent pair of wingers.
100% its easy to say Geno is old etc when he's coming off a major injury and looked sluggish at times (even though he still was at a PPG) and looked good in the playoffs (go figure after he had more games under his belt)

I mean he is definitely not going to be back 100% with a rushed off-season. Sure he is getting older but we are talking about one of the better hockey players in the game the last 15 years. He still has it and would be foolish to let it go.

I am confident he will be back and if FSG is serious about contending they will bring him back and give him legit top 6 players, not musical chairs 3rd liners. RR was a great pickup at the deadline and was a legit top 6 guy that at least gave him the opportunity to play with some skill. It will be interesting how this team shapes out

I have a feeling the Pens have a deal in place for Rakell. When Geno is signed Rakell will be the next.

i don’t…I don’t think Rakell is all that interested in signing here…he’ll go to market and if he doesn’t get offers he likes from places he’d prefer to be, he’ll negotiate with Hextall…

Heinen and Kapanen are guys that, if this team was winning, you could bring back for the sake of cohesion and roster consistency, etc.

We are not winning, so there is no point. Start fresh with different players who bring the things we need.

Furthermore, Zucker is still here. Until that changes, we need roster flexibility more than anything else (well, and cap space of course).
While Heinen had a solid season I would much rather see a Miles Wood type of player in here as I think the team would be much better of with his skillset. Yes different can be good

They all kind of say that, but yeah, he mentioned it in the locker room clean out.

Honestly, I'd much rather have Heinen over McGinn.
I don't think we talk enough about moving McGinn. Maybe he flies just below the radar but he is paid $2M more than an ELC and is on our 4th line half the time.

Heinen had what felt like the lowest highs and highest lows of any player. He had a few good stretches, and was never bad even when he was off. I also think he call play well with either Carter or Malkin.
Not at $3 M though…he could get that after arbitration…I think he doesnt get a QO

He’s mainly on the fourth line because of sullivan tho.

He could easily play on the third line but sullivan won’t break up his TB-McGinn pair.

You could easily run
Zucker - Carter - McGinn
DOC - TB - Zohorna

As your bottom 6 to start the year and upgrade later.

I was told McGinn was a playoff beast when Hextall signed him. Are there any teams out there that still believe this crap that would want him?

This is a perfect example where stats don't tell the story. Heinen is fine as a player, the problem is that he brings nothing different to the team. When he's not in scoring during one of his streaks, he's just there and that's the problem with this current roster. Too many guys built the same way. When it's all clicking offensively, the team looks like one of the best in the league. But this never happens in a playoff game, they aren't built for playoffs.

When they won in 08, they had freakish skill combined with a team that could go to the dirty areas and YOUTH.

16/17, they were among the fastest teams that had freakish skill in their prime and dominated with puck possession.

Current day, their freakish skilled players are no longer in their prime. They may be slightly above average to average with their speed. They are near the bottom with strength, which causes them to get dominated at times on the boards and in front of both nets. How does that team win? What makes them special? We know the answer, they aren't. Which is why their seasons have ended pretty much in the same fashion for the past 4 season.

Based on the offseason so far........
This is the only thing that you ever typed up that made sense.........somebody pinch me.

Who are you, dont give the keyboard back

New article from Yohe…

- Hextall and Malkin agree on $6M but Hextall continues to want only three years while Malkin continues to want four. Yohe doesn’t give an indication one way or the other as to whether he thinks it gets done.

- Yohe makes it clear everyone in the organization wants him back but they’re concerned about the health aspect of it.

- Pens are probably going to qualify Heinen. Heinen wants 3M though and the Pens don’t want to do that but will look to compromise.

- 50/50 as to whether they qualify Kapanen.

- Hextall has some trade offers on the table to consider. They want to move salary to re-sign Rakell and they do want to re-sign him. Gotta move that salary before attempting to do so. It does look like Rakell hits open market.

- If they can’t re-sign Rakell, looking to sign a significant UFA to replace him. Doesn’t provide any names.

Didn't he say he wanted to come back?
They all say that…per rumors, he prefers staying on the left coast, or his wife prefers it….if that doesn’t materialize, he’ll sign w highest bidder…last big pay day for him
