Zadina might have a career high of 24 points. But I'd rather bet on him having a chance to break out offensively than Nieto, Acciari or whatever players we signed. They are what they are at this stage

Acciari's career high in goals is 20. He hit 14 last year in a bottom-6 role.

Zadina has been a worse 5v5 producer than Josh Archibald over his career.

If I’m Crosby, Malkin and Letang and looking at our current team I’m not sure how I’m convinced we’ve maximized the remaining years in Pittsburgh.

And honestly who cares? If Jake won’t sign for a deal that fits in line with the core, say bye. Same approach we took with Malkin.

You can lose the Guentzel trade and win by packaging those assets or signing a better fit the next offseason.

If Jake is unsigned at the deadline and we are barely in the playoffs not moving him is a way to sink this franchise too.

Sure if he unsigned and they are out. But honestly both of those things happening by the deadline are slim.

I view Zadina in the exact same capacity as Alex Nylander.

If he was the 100OV pick, we wouldn't even know his name.

Just because I find it funny:

2020-2021: 1.16 5v5 points/60 for Zadina, 1.18 5v5 points/60 for ZAR
2021-2022: 0.96 5v5 points/60 for Zadina, 1.00 5v5 points/60 for ZAR
2022-2023: 1.16 5v5 points/60 for Zadina, 1.10 5v5 points/60 for ZAR

Overall: 1.07 5v5 points/60 for Zadina, 1.08 5v5 points/60 for ZAR

From Rossi, who is no longer using Twitter and just updating on The Athletic and elsewhere:

Penguins & Hurricanes received permission and have spoken directly with Erik Karlsson. However, those talks were feeling-out discussions as each club continues to explore options for trade with Sharks.

Talk about what? I'm honestly unsure of what they could be reaching out to Karlsson about.

Are both the Penguins and Canes trying to strong arm the Sharks into making a move sooner? Maybe by saying "pick one of the two and force the Sharks to work with one team"?

Perhaps to better gauge his interest so that they can determine whether it's worth still doing this dance with San Jose. Perhaps to talk about his role so they can make sure there are no hiccups upon arrival.

While there are no contract negotiations necessary like there was in the Debrincat trade, I can see where it could be helpful and beneficial to talk to the player before consummating the deal, just in case a red flag pops up. You're giving up significant assets for a player who has been very difficult to move.

I’d rather have that then letting Jake walk or signing him to a 8 year deal at 30
He won't walk, and I don't care if we have him signed for 8 years. We'll still be able to trade him even if he signs a long term deal. So if we sign him and let's say we're still a playoff team for years 1-3 of his deal and then become garbage after that, we'll probably still be able to move him for a similar return a few years from now unless his game falls off a cliff.

And if we become garbage even sooner than that well he'll still be moveable then as well. If he wants out early into his new deal the teams that want him will be contenders and the teams that he wants to go to will be contenders as well, so I don't see a NMC or NTC being a big hurdle.

This have been public knowledge since July 1st. Rossi could atleast act like he knows something

Good luck trading a 33 year old Jake Guentzel at 8-9 mil with 5 years on his deal.

It's about to happen with Erik Karlsson who has a worse deal and has 3 shitty years sandwiched between 1 (admittedly very good) year.

If the Pens are in tank mode with 33 year old Jake Guentzel and retain on his deal, they'll most certainly find a taker. And I bet the return wouldn't be that much different from now either. A shitty first round pick and a whatever prospect. That's what they'd get now if they move him and that's what they'll get if they move him a few years from now as well.

Like Timo Meier is a younger bigger version of Jake and was an RFA to boot and look at the return he just got. Pretty whatever bundle of assets. Jake will bring back even less as a UFA and older.
