According to Scott Wheeler, Ponomaryov was the Hurricanes' 6th-best prospect, Koivunen was their 7th-best prospect, and Lucius was their 9th-best prospect.
Dumbass should have gone for their 12th.13th and 15th best prospects instead. CAR probably talked ''dumbass'' into taking the higher ones so he wouldn't look like a complete buffoon. Well, it didn't work.

-Horvat (25%) for 1st (top 13 protected), Raty (possibly more highly regarded then than anyone we got), Beauviller (similar if not less valuable to Bunting)
-Meier for conditional 1st (similar conditions to ours), conditional 2nd, Mukhamudullin (former 1st rounder) Fabian Zetterlund (again in line with the best prospects we got here), and 2 depth crap contracts
Should note Horvat is a center, which always nets more.

The bummer here isn't just selling a rental (return is probably fair), it's that we were selling at all. No way it should've come to this. What a disaster.
This was inevitable.

Look, I get Dubas didn't have all the leverage in the world knowing Guentzel's status as a pending UFA, but there was a competitive list of suitors. Getting an unconditional first-round pick here was absolutely necessary, and anything less than that is an objective miss. It's Jake Guentzel.
That said, Dubas did have to make a tough, unpopular decision here with the future of the franchise unclear and right on the line of will-they-won't-they. I respect sucking it up and making the decision, and he squeezed out at worst a second-round pick, a solid player on a rebuilding roster in Bunting, and several high-ish end prospects, at least one of whom is destined to pan out well.
But it's Jake Guentzel. You need a first-round pick.

I’m just saying people seem encouraged by his progress this year and this guy lapped him in his first season.
And if he was the 2hd or 3rd piece that'd be ok, not the main piece. Dumbass needs to go back to Canada.
