Let's be realistic here - I think the return looks underwhelming, but these guys may turn out OK. However, I think what we do know, deep down, is that with Dubas and Sully on board long term, the Pens will be drafting in at least the top 6 within the next three years

   Look, I get Dubas didn't have all the leverage in the world knowing Guentzel's status as a pending UFA, but there was a competitive list of suitors. Getting an unconditional first-round pick here was absolutely necessary, and anything less than that is an objective miss. It's Jake Guentzel.
   That said, Dubas did have to make a tough, unpopular decision here with the future of the franchise unclear and right on the line of will-they-won't-they. I respect sucking it up and making the decision, and he squeezed out at worst a second-round pick, a solid player on a rebuilding roster in Bunting, and several high-ish end prospects, at least one of whom is destined to pan out well.

Disappointed to see the scout saying Ponomarev has a bottom-six ceiling. I certainly didn't see him with top-line potential, but I was hoping he could be a middle-six two-way C with some offensive flair.

Oh well, best case was only delaying the inevitable for like one season. But I actually wanted that last season.

I still maintain that if Smith had worked out like they thought he would, and the power play was league average, this team is one of the better teams in the conference..Graves and all.

Your disappointed? This TDL was the only thing I cared about and Dumbass soiled the bed! I knew this team was destined for failure but at least get quality prospects in the process for crying out loud! We won't be competitive until 2032!

Ponomarev had one more goal, one more assist and two more points for Carolina against Washington on January 5 than anybody wearing black and gold did tonight against them.

There's zero reason that Carolina shouldn't have given up the 1st unconditional with the low return we got.

They gave up their most NHL ready prospect, a 20 year old scoring a ppg in Finland, an 5th round pick having a good D+1 season and a middle six fwd signed to a reasonable contract. Who cares? Canes are probably drafting 25th at best with Guentzel.
