I don't think its a catastrophically bad return.A little disappointing? That's like saying the titanic had a ''little'' leak.

Tippett was still more highly regarded at that time than any of the guys we got. He was in Kakko's current position of a change of scenery candidate. Plus they also got a guaranteed 1st and 3rd. For an older player with 0 cups who was picking his new team AKA there were no other negotiations or suitors. That is the main takeaway.A trade that places like the Athletic was extremely lukewarm to on the Flyers' end? You're looking at the trade in hindsight now that Tippett has blossomed.
NHL trade grades: Panthers land Claude Giroux at a discount
Flyers fans are going to hate the return, and they should. But Giroux had a no-move clause.theathletic.com
Relative to Morrow and Blake?I don't think its a catastrophically bad return.
For sure, but I Gurgs was right that Dubas has always been pretty dogshit at trades and whelp, here we are.I still would do it versus losing Guentzel for nothing or signing him to a $10m AAV extension with ironclad trade protection. It's time to tank.
It’s not. Canes fans don’t consider it a fleecing at all.I don't think its a catastrophically bad return.
They got a guaranteed lottery protected pick two years in the future. Philly hasn’t even used that pick yet.Tippett was still more highly regarded at that time than any of the guys we got. Nobody has been seriously claiming that a coaching change would bring us the cup all season long, simply that trying so would be a better way to maximize this end era for all concerned-- Sid, the team, etc.I'm serious. Do people really think there is some sort of scenario where Crosby, Malkin and Letang ride off into the sunset together with one more Stanley Cup raised above their heads?
The likelihood of that is astronomically low.
This was inevitable. It was just a question of when, but dynasties always end and they end with a whimper.
Sure, they'll try again next year, but they're not going to significantly invest assets to do it. They'll throw some money around in free agency, maybe make a calculated trade. But the odds are against them seriously making a run.

If anyone told me, after we lost to the Caps in the 2nd round in 2018 following the back-to-back cups, that this would be the high water mark for the rest of Sid and Geno's time with the Pens....
....that we would not unearth or develop one single impact player over the next +5 years.
....that Sully would stay our coach through four 1st round exits and a miss, plus now 61 games in another playoff miss bound season...
....that we would let go of two GM's during that period and hire a well-established failure as a consequence of finally missing the playoffs....
..... that we would sign Erik Karlsson to do dump-ins and not have him lead the breakout/consistently join the rush....
.... that we would have Guentzel be our net-front presence ever since dealing Horny away, and see a still worsening PP for years, being directly responsible for several playoff outs and this season arguably for not making it in, and not think we needed a change there....
.... and that Sully is STILL here despite these top management changes and results....
Well. I would not have believed it.
The mismanagement is just epic.
Because they weren't living in never never land like Dubas and the Pens of thinking they can rebuild on the fly. Yet they're still doing better than us this year. They got a guaranteed lottery protected pick two years in the future. Philly hasn’t even used that pick yet.
Not less than you knew about Morrow and Blake 6 minutes agoThey're hicks from the south, what the hell do they know?
That would actually be a silver lining.Wouldn’t be surprised if we see the core ask out after this absurd mismanagement …
At least the ownership group is passionate and knowledgeable about hockey. It's awesome that we hired the worst coach, the worst PoHO AND the worst GM for our situation.
Morrow and Blake would have been fantastic! Instead we got moe, larry and Curly! Not less than you knew about Morrow and Blake 6 minutes ago
Florida is the Cup favourite this year. Their pick is worth nothing. This is such a reach.Because they weren't living in never never land like Dubas and the Pens of thinking they can rebuild on the fly. Yet they're still doing better than us this year.
Like I said, Giroux also picked his spot and there were no other teams to negotiate with. He also lacks half the playoff/cup resume as Jake and was 4 years older.
Dubas' team losing four straight and getting garrotted at home in real time didn't help his bluff.Relative to Morrow and Blake?
