A trade that places like the Athletic was extremely lukewarm to on the Flyers' end? You're looking at the trade in hindsight now that Tippett has blossomed.

Philadelphia did receive a first in the trade, but the return package is still relatively light considering Giroux’s overall value. A no-move clause obviously plays a role in that, but you’d still hope for a bit more out of the deal. This is a definite win for the Panthers.

Flyers fans are going to hate the return, and they should. They would’ve hated any Giroux deal, but what they wound up getting in return seems even more annoying than anticipated. Those are the breaks, though. Maybe the 2024 draft class will be deep.

I'm serious. Do people really think there is some sort of scenario where Crosby, Malkin and Letang ride off into the sunset together with one more Stanley Cup raised above their heads?

The likelihood of that is astronomically low.

This was inevitable. It was just a question of when, but dynasties always end and they end with a whimper.

Sure, they'll try again next year, but they're not going to significantly invest assets to do it. They'll throw some money around in free agency, maybe make a calculated trade. But the odds are against them seriously making a run.

Florida had totally soured on Tippett at that time and the pick was 2 drafts in the future. It was a trash return in terms of value at that time that worked out because Tippett developed well.

Were you here earlier? Because initially they reported Morrow then Blake. Several reported either one or the other. So, from that point it's a huge let down. We hearD Morrows name for four or five hours.
