That was Jake Guentzel that made the lazy turnover.

The other goal. Hey whatever who cares. Its important to control the narrative and blame the coaching. I'm not a chronic poster so I don't know how to do that.

Blaming the coaching in this instances is amateur and completely lazy.

All I know is that Penguins fans have told me for YEARS that even if star players produce offensively, if the team is not performing, it's squarely their fault.

Sooooo

I could go on for days regarding the state of the team, but I'll summarize with two horrible decisions.

Extending a rapidly declining Carter for TWO YEARS.
Extending Mike Sullivan who had two year remaining on his current deal, when the Pens have flamed out 4 straight years.
These have been the key mistakes so far, I agree.

I would add the Petry trade, if he doesn’t pull his head out of his butt soon (hopefully for the Pens, he’s not cooked yet).

Agreed on Petry, but if I were to list all of the FO's mistakes since hex was hired, it would read like War & Peace.

They do this literally every year. Start like shit. Everyone cries for them to burn it down. Then it's "March" Of The Penguins memes while they go on some absurd streak of 16 wins in their last 21

The problem is their tendys cant stop a damn beach ball come playoff time
Until that one year that's not like every other year...........which is this year

This may not be my place but you guys have 5 titles and like 40 consecutive years of generational talent. Sid and co ain't gonna be there forever. Whether they win or lose, enjoy yourselves and stop taking it so damn seriously.

Sabre fan, Canuck fan, Wild fan, etc they'd f***ing kill to know what it's like to be this miserable with that many happy memories to remind them it's not always so bad

This is literally the purpose of my username as a Lightning fan. If I go through the valley I'll drink from the Cup we three times apparently never earned

I'm quite ok with losing in the short term with a plan to compete in the future. What I don't want is the Pens to turn into the Wings, Sabres or Canucks. That's the entire point of my posts for the past 3 years on this board, by delaying what should be done, they are cementing their future for at least a decade and possibly beyond.

Yeah but.....that's true. And Pens have often "not performed" early in seasons, - and then one of Crosby or Malkin - or both - put the teams on their shoulders and play as MVP candidates for a stretch of ~20+ games to get the team back on track.

I'm sure it'll happen again this year.

You're not being irrational. I hope you didn't get that from what I said. Just more that it's literally impossible for you guys to ever be like them. The Pens can stink for 20 years and yet you can't tell the story of an entire generation of hockey without them.

Pop a cold one and toast your boys whether or not this is the year they fall off.

For me it's the lack of effort and the general disorganization of the team too often under Sullivan these past handful of seasons. I can take losses if it's due to lack of talent or declining vets as long as Sullivan's got them playing hard. But these latest teams under him aren't very "fun" to watch when they take off 2 periods out of 3 all too often.

That's where my frustration stems from. It's not the losses, per se. It's the *how*. And no matter how many Cups they've previously won, seeing listless hockey isn't fun to watch.

As much as I still get stressed about losses, it's nowhere near how it was from like 2010-2015 when the Pens were missing Crosby and Malkin's legacies down the toilet.

They've got 3 cups now. Anything else is gravy.

Sadly I can't turn it off so I still get at least a little ornery about losses, but it doesn't bother me nearly as much as it used to. How could it? I've seen more Cups in this era of Pens hockey than some will see in their lifetimes. I know how lucky I am.

7 losses in a row. What is the Pens 1st worth?

I don't think the Penguins are quite as bad as their record suggests, but I honestly don't think this team is a playoff team with this bad of special teams.

The same think happened to Vegas last year. They were a pretty good 5v5 team both in terms of analytics and production, but they were downright horrid on the PP and crap on the PK. That caused them to only finish with 94 points and miss the playoffs.

I think they will figure it out, but it’s surprising to see them blow so many leads.

This season is nuts!! So many teams either playing way above expected (Buffalo, NJ, Seattle, Philadelphia) and so many playing way below (Pittsburgh, Calgary, Toronto, Minnesota, Nashville)

Penguins..are bad
Good thing we have the Tank Commander Mike Sullivan for 3 more years.

The game is too fast for older teams like the Caps and Pens. Sure they might just make the playoffs but they aren’t going anywhere.
Pens aren't slow. They play slow. It's a difference. The way the coach is utilizing the line up and playing the system has the team not confident in the style they're emplored to play. Speed wise they're not slow. When you second guess the system because it makes zero sense, you play slow because of hesitation. The team has that problem in spades and has been trending to that for well over 5 seasons.

The Penguins needed to move off of at least both Malkin and Letang during the 2021 offseason, when it became clear after 3 consecutive 1st round exits that the core was simply not good enough anymore to compete for a Stanley Cup.

They could have even included Crosby in that, and asked him if he would have preferred a trade to a destination of his choice rather than spend the last years of his career on a rebuilding team.

All of this would have been unpopular with the fan base. But the fan base will now be forced to suffer through a team that is going through a very slow death over several seasons rather than accelerating a much-needed rebuild.
People who say this are ridiculous. They should have tanked so they could.. be in the position they’re in now? They should have went full Buffalo after 2 100 pt seasons with one division title and two first round exits they outplayed their opponent in? Why? It’s clear that everybody who says this is just saying so because that’s what they as a non-Pens fan would have liked to see.

Not their fault they ran into a juggernaut tonight.

Crosby was sensational though - the best I've seen him move in years.
