Penguins fire Mike Johnston, Mike Sullivan named new head coach

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that when you have Malkin, Crosby, Kessel, and Letang... and have the next to worst PP in the NHL... and fire the coaches other than your PP coach... your team is in trouble.

The Pens are running with moronic PPs right now too. The top unit is Crosby, Malkin, Warsofsky (should be AHLer), Kunitz (sucks) and Hornqvist (has sucked this year). The 2nd unit is Kessel, Daley, Maatta, Perron (has sucked this year) and Sheary. Both units are playing like garbage.

Without Malkin in beast mode or Fleury standing on his head, it's a dumpster fire at this point.
 
Putting your woes only on the shoulders of poor Zatkoff is not fair.

Your whole team performance tonight was a dumpster fire. I mean, stuff like on the first goal, the 5 Penguins staring at Ferraro, letting the Bruins take their sweet time to change out the line and then cough up a goal immediately. On the second goal, same thing with Marchand while on a PP + Kessel not picking up Bergeron going on a bee line towards the net. On the third goal in PP, three Penguins just looked at Eriksson taking THREE WHACKS at the puck before finally scoring. And the list could go on...

Of course it wasn't all on Zatkoff, but Zatkoff still played like crap. The way the Pens are playing now isn't any different than how they were playing under MJ, at least not yet. That's the point I was getting at, the Pens got blown out tonight because Zatkoff was in net and not Fleury. Had Fleury been in net, this would have been your standard 2015-2016 Penguins 3-2 loss.

Of course. Malkin being on fire is the only time any of our lines have looked good for longer than a game or 2 straight.

Yes, they have an injury situation, including their goalie. But Johnston was underrated on what he did for this team defensively.

Zatkoff is a terrible goalie and it shows how much Fleury carried this team.
 
Seems like to me that Johnston knew how bad their D was and had to play the style he chose in order for them to win. Also, Fleury's play masked a lot of their deficiencies. Some Pens fans say that the forwards are the best bunch they've ever amassed but the problem looks like they're the wrong mix.

Hahahahaha so now they just sent Sprong down. The new coach agreed with the old coach that he's not ready, and now JR looks like a moron. :laugh:
 
Pens never should have fired Shero and should have promoted Hynes to the big club. NJ Devils will be the team to beat in a few years.

I was honestly thinking this exact thing.

This team is built like crap. There are a few great pieces, but they're simply not fitting together. Not anymore at least.

They need to blow it up and start over. Keep one of Malkin/Crosby and go from there.

What a shame, too. We all expected them to be so successful since their first play-off appearance (Malkin's rookie season). They were going to win CUPS!!!

Their D now is no better than what it was, at least not systematically.

Fleury was covering all those warts, and they were still allowing a ton of shots and scoring chances a game. I don't think people realize how bad Zatkoff is.

LOL. Shero left a giant ***** in Pittsburgh that they're still trying to ********. His last couple years there were beyond awful. Agreed on Hynes though.
