I agree that you have to run with Shesty in the playoffs if he gets his game back. He's too good in the post season to go with anyone else and was the best player on the ice against the devils last year.

But....

Quick is a two-time cup winner and has completely looked the part in his 8-0-1 start to the season so far. I don't know how you can look at his resume and his current level of play and not say he's earned more starts at this point considering Shesty has been rather pedestrian so far.

I kind of regret my earlier post on this. Yeah if the trend continues there could be some controversy going into postseason, but counting on this trend from barely 25% of the season to continue through March / April 2024 after what we’ve seen over multiple seasons from Shesterkin would be foolish. I bet he finds some small technical fix, gains some confidence and becomes again that top-3/5 goalie in the NHL again sooner than later.

He is fast...on one dump in he blew by two Kings and got his own dump in. uncontested....we don't have many that can/will do that . So far doing a good job as replacement and he has not cost us any games IMO .

He is fast...on one dump in he blew by two Kings and got his own dump in. uncontested....we don't have many that can/will do that . So far doing a good job as replacement and he has not cost us any games IMO .

At some point these guys have to learn that it’s ok to fight for position and engage in 50-50 battles. Win some, lose some. We have too many guys trying to fool the whole defense. It works sometimes of course, but the attack must be multi-dimensional. And in the playoffs it’s those puck battles and getting position on the defender that leads to goals. Even a small guy like Brodzinski can score from the slot. Obviously he has to pick his spots but if the whole team has that mindset, the sky’s the limit. Guys like Brodzinski - and Trocheck and Panarin and Fox - going to the slot should shame the bigger guys who do the fancy fly-bys thinking they’re Mike Gartner.

It’s really interesting how so many NHL teams this year are switching up their power play formations on the fly. There was pretty much nothing other than the 1-3-1 setup for so long but now some of the dinosaur setups are being used again. NYR have been vacating the bumper spot mid power play and a getting a lot of movement going on the perimeter. Unreal passing play last night for the first goal on what I’m assuming was a set play.
