Remember when someone suggested it was Laine who led the charge for Pascal?
Maybe he was part of it? Dont know what this says about that whole thing. Maybe had different experiences with Vincent as an assistant coach? He and many players seemed happy about it in the moment

I'm with Pascal on this. He can scratch whatever guys he wants if he feels they aren't "going". Up to the coach.

Patty talking about how unfair it is or embarrassing it is, is to me off track. This is a good step if it gets him and others to stop thinking they are entitled to play every game.

I'm glad we saw him react the way he did like Vincent said, if he wasn't upset about it... It would be a much bigger issue. Sometimes guys need to be embarrassed to get put on notice and get themselves out of a funk(concussion certainly doesn't help)

It adds to the idea of the country club that this franchise has become. You would never see this in a playoff contender franchise. Too many players believe they are above the team they play for even though they're not performing. Egos need to be tamed and there needs to be cohesion.

Didnt healthy scratch players but Jon Cooper has benched Stamkos, Kucherov and Point before. In the same game even

Did they come out afterwards and call it embarrassing and such? Not saying good players don't get healthy scratched but certain guys are entitled. Or maybe it's just Laine.

The way I see Pascals approach to running the bench/lineup he is walking a fine line at this point of the season. At some point he must stop shuffling players and lines if he’s looking to players creating any kind of chemistry.

You simply can’t have your top players demoted or in the rafters and expect good results. Johnny has been really good at creating chances but his linemates haven’t put the puck in on his feeds.

Getting Laine back after a concussion and then scratching him either tells of a lackluster medical team or poor coaching. The time to set an example for the expected result of our top players is running really short on the coach.

Laine is far from his best at the moment but he is an integral part of the firepower and game tilting group of players on this team. Enough of building a culture. Let the top players cook, and they’ll start putting the puck in the net.m

Let ‘em cook and let the stars find their gene with a long leash and the results will follow.

 I just read the article in the Dispatch. Start the countdown clock on Laine asking to be traded…

Laine is known as a direct guy like most Finns and says how it is. He felt embarrassed and thats how it is, he also said his side to media and feels its easier to get the game going by playing instead of being scratched.

Kucherov has declined to comment any of his benchings (yes there are multiple), which Laine could have also done, but didn't.

Laine himself admitted that the problems were partly due to a medical condition.

One thing is Patrick's self-confidence, the other is that he was messing up what he could and we urgently needed to win. The other thing is that his work was continued by others, culminating in the PP goal.

I understand that he was upset, but a coach has to have the same standart for every player.

Patrik is a "what's on his heart is on his tongue" type of person. Vincent and Jarmo know that too. And I think the team does too.

Vincent's reasoning sounds reasonable for me. I hope Laine will take this the right way and show us what he's been made out of.

I've been watching Laine's career with a great focus ever since his first year in Winnipeg. He was saying back then how he wants to be the best player in the world. While many were laughing at the time, I truly believed it could be possible with a hard work and the skill set that Laine had. He was without the doubt, a really unique talent - check out the chart of his xGoals vs Goals I found online.

I don't think Columbus fans realise, how "good" year 1 and 2 Laine was in Winnipeg. Every time he had the puck in the offense zone there was some kind of electricity in the air. It really felt like he could get a goal from anywhere. And to be honest, he also scored a lot.

Fast forward two-three years, something happened. Concussion from that big hit from McCabe, opponents defending his strengths better, his dad's passing, pressure of needing to be the top player, or something else - who knows. In my eyes, he had lost his magic touch. Don't get me wrong, he showed, especially last year, that he can still be a really good player and he is. But to me, it is different. His shot seems to be off (from what it used to be), he seems slower and clunkier (I wish there were shift-to-shift videos from his rookie year) and he seems less driven. When he talked earlier in the year about wanting to be able to battle against the best centers in the league, it was not believable.

He needs to be realistic. He has to put the work to battle more and move his legs. He should be more aggressive with his shot - when was the last time he shot in 2-1 attacks? I will still be his fan, but I really hope he still could take a jump in his career and challenge truly the best players.

Telling everyone how he feels doesn't do anything. They want him to play better, let's see if he's capable.

With what we know about Vincent, I feel confident that he has communicated very clearly to Laine (and anyone else benched or scratched) what the reasons were and expectations are. (We can debate about whether Vincent’s lack of experience hampers team performance but I believe one of his core tenets is communication.)

I hope the players, and Laine specifically in this case, are as clear and open in their communication to the coach in return, and that the story doesn’t contain anything Vincent hasn’t already heard.

Part of me is hearing that he believes in Patrik and part of me is hearing that he does not understand what he does. Some linkup in the communication is missing.

They asked him. What's he supposed to do, not answer?
He could of declined to comment on the healthy scratch. It's really not important if he just plays better though. IMO he shouldn't of spoke at all because his game has been awful. Go prove that it was a mistake to have been benched.

I don't understand why people ask questions if they don't really want the answers. He had several microphones in front of him.

Laine and decline to comment is like water and fire. :sarcasm:
