Well, I can’t say I saw this coming. I thought we would be strapped with Lambert until season’s end

I haven’t watched a game since I attended that debacle in Nashville. Looks like I’m gonna need to start tuning in again

Arrogance perceived by fans of other teams means the player oozes confidence and believes in himself.

Patty is the same as a coach. If guys want to listen to him and go through the wall for him, he will instill that confidence and a chip on their shoulder.

He’s going to bring PASSION. Nobody hates losing more than Patrick Roy.
Just hope he's learned what to do with that emotion.

Some thoughts...

Lambert had to go. Should've never been hired.

To that point...You know Lambert is never being hired as an NHL head coach again. So WTF did Lou hire him...???

I don't feel bad for Lambert. He got a year and a half to coach and NHL team (and corresponding salary to boot). Only a few humans ever get to experience that.

As for Roy...You could not have hired a more fiery coach....And that includes Tortorella.

Love Roy for his no BS/get in your face style. I think the jury is still out on if he's learned from his previous coaching mistakes and can be a great coach at the NHL level.

I know there's a report that Roy turned down some other NHL coaching jobs in the past few years. I wonder about that. A bit suspicious that a Jack Adams award winner has preferred to remain in the minor leagues for nearly the past decade.

I know many would choose to believe that (only) Lou could convince Roy to come here, but it's possible that Roy didn't really have any other good options...And this gets him back in the game.

Even if Roy is awesome...This roster still needs work - Specifically on defense. Lou cannot be done...Or he should be done.

Isles have 17 games before the trade deadline. That’s enough time for Roy to make a mark and also work with Lou on identifying where they need help.

What a relief! We all knew Lambert had to go but I thought Lou was going to promote McLean… which would’ve been the end for our playoff hopes and the end for Lou. He’s too smart for that, thankfully.

While this caught me by surprise, I’ve come around . Roy has zero ties to any player and that’s what this team ed, someone who will not hesitate to lay down the law.

Not 100% convinced this wasn’t a Malkin hire to groom Lou’s eventual successor. Should be interesting to see how this plays out.

Surprised that Roy was hired. Didn’t even see him as a possibility. Also, not a fan of some of the things from Roy’s time in Colorado.

But with that said, I like how upfront he has been about owning his previous coaching failings. Shows the possibility of growth. That’s further cemented when considering his junior success. It will be interesting to see how he handles this opportunity.

From an entertainment perspective this season was going nowhere… at the very least it makes the rest of the year interesting.

He coached Varly in Colorado, but I get what you're saying. An injured backup goalie is a pretty minor tie.

What were his previous coaching mistakes?

Have you seen the video above? Passion is great, but you need to channel it so you are in control and always leading your team. I think even Roy would agree he had too many over the top moments with the Avs.

What a pleasant surprise stumbling upon this bit of news on ole HF.

Hoping the team plays with better structure, organization, and consistent intensity that is emblematic of Roy.

Don’t know much about his coaching, wouldve preferred someone with more NHL pedigree. Anything outside of Lane is an upgrade in my book.

They might have been piggybacking off this even though he mentioned nothing about him rejecting offers..

Yeah, that’s a bunch of baloney, watch the video he’s kinda saying that without any confidence- he’s the Canadian inside man and was clueless, but has to keep his persona going so he puffed a bit.

I don't think there was any bad move at this point but that said this on the surface looks like a really good move----lets see how it plays out
