Arrogance perceived by fans of other teams means the player oozes confidence and believes in himself.

Patty is the same as a coach. If guys want to listen to him and go through the wall for him, he will instill that confidence and a chip on their shoulder.

He’s going to bring PASSION.

Nobody hates losing more than Patrick Roy.
certainly not the guy just let go . Cant remember his name and it’s not important . It was never his fault . Always the players or the fans or the
pretzel guy in the parking lot were to blame. LGI

Doing a little research to Try and find who were Roys assistants in Colorado

All three years he had Tim Army. Army was a holdover from Sacco and even coached on Bednars staff the year after Lou left. What’s interesting about Army is he was the head coach of Providence college which Lou was the coach for so long before he moved into the NHL with the Devils.
Army coached the Wild AHL team the last few years but this year it says he’s coaching in China. Lol

The Other assistant he had was Andre Tourigny who is currently head coach for the Coyotes. He was a long time junior coach mostly in the Q and I believe had a stint in the OHL.

3rd assistant he had was Dave Farrish his last year in CoL. I believe Farrish retired and is scouting now.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Roy Keeps MacLean and brings in another assistant of his choice.

in theory the coach will let goalie coach do their thing, but no chance in hell Roy isn’t giving pointers and chatting with the goalies directly as well.

He has never done that in junior hockey. He has always let the goalie coach do his job. Technically, goalies are very different than in his days. He might give some advices on the mental side but that’s it.

Roy is certainly the right coach here that can bring the structure Trotz did but also bring some fire to shake this group up. The roster on the other hand will be the biggest issue as I’m not sure he’s coached with minimal star power before. I think this coach could be good for Barzal

Perhaps this has been posted earlier in this thread but I wonder if the French Canadian connection will light a fire under JGP?

A solid third line would go wonders in balancing the offensive side of this team. It would be nice if he had talented linemates too I suppose.

Yes. He has said he lets the goalie coach worry about the technical issues but he is the one that works on his head (mental).

Will see if that is what he does here.

I hope Roy is able to reign back the chaos that Lambert unleashed on this team. We went back to Doug Weight hockey and had no structure under Lane, that's gotta swing back towards Trotz hockey yet not all the way back under Roy. The Country Club is over and that's the most positive aspect of the coaching change.

Excited for the Roy Era to start tonight.

Seriously. I haven't watched too many games this year, but the ones I did watch, gave me flashbacks of the pre-trotz era.

Surprised that Roy was hired. Didn’t even see him as a possibility. Also, not a fan of some of the things from Roy’s time in Colorado.

But with that said, I like how upfront he has been about owning his previous coaching failings. Shows the possibility of growth. That’s further cemented when considering his junior success. It will be interesting to see how he handles

From an entertainment perspective this season was going nowhere… at the very least it makes the rest of the year interesting.
I'm with you on this part. I'm happy that Roy is an outsider with no ties to anyone in that room other than Semyon Varlamov. I'm not a fan of his baggage from Colorado but open minded enough to want to give him a chance here on the Island. Although I'm sure Patrick is very familiar with Noah Dobson from their QMJHL days.

On the plus side of Roy's hiring is that I expect he can coach with a goalie's eye and that he will be able to help the team better support our biggest asset, Ilya Sorokin. Not that he will instruct him on how to play the position but how he can help the players in front of him to not hang him out to dry every game.

The thing that mesmerized me was how this team that was notorious for "ruining hockey" with their defensive structure swung all the way back to a terrible combination of Scott Gordon's Overspeed and Doug Weight's Loyola Marymount Run and Gun. I had mentioned several times how this team lost all of their hockey IQ over the summer and was the dumbest team in a long time... it was just chaotic.

I am very encouraged by Roy, he aced the press conference and I am liking the hire more and more. This team is the most complete and talented in a while, the Isles could be scary in the playoffs with a good coach.
