I think the Bruins are still strong enough without Bergeron/Krejci to be a playoff team. But tweaks need to be made if we're going to get over on some of these other playoff teams.
I still think Bergeron comes back

His kids are at the age they can go to games and it’s fun to have them around

He’s coming off a 27 goal season and elite defensive season that should lead to another Selke as best forward in league

The room is his the team would if he comes back almost all of the main components that were 50-10 (Bergeron Marchand Pastrnak DeBrusk Zacha Hall Coyle Frederic Lindholm Carlo McAvoy Grzelcyk Swayman Ullmark)

That’s 14 without Krejci of a team on pace for all time record

Not sure how they aren’t dominant again

I think he comes back for next year.

If he does come back, this needs to be a wakeup call for the Bruins if they're hoping to compete. They can't expect Bergeron to be the warhorse for them and do all the heavy lifting. Come spring, his body is broken. They need to save Bergeron from himself and Marchand too to an extent; Monty needs to coach accordingly - a healthy Bergeron is a difference maker and would have tilted this series and needs his minutes and on-ice role limited.

Little thing called the Cap says there all not coming back.Is Foligno being gone be enough to shore up the rest of the lineup when you have to accommodate some raises.

Can I ask... why the emphasis only for the regular season?

Do you believe he has the gas/health to excel in the regular season and deep into the playoffs?

If he comes back he has to be dropped in the line up though. He's not a 1C any more on a cup contending team. He should center a shutdown checking 3rd or 4th line and have his primary responsibility on the PK. Much like Carolina did with Staal.
At his age, if he's your 1C, you're just not good enough.

The more I digest this year's loss the more I am open to bringing Bergy back at a bit of a reduced role. Maybe if he isn't our number 1 C then any injuries to him won't impact the team as heavily. Roll out 3 1A/1B/1C lines and maybe try to reduce his PK mins a bit more.

Anyway, going to be a long and interesting offseason. See what Sweeney can pull off.
He’s a great checking line center on a contender.

However, they don’t have the horses to slot up to the top 6 to move him down to a reduced role in terms of ice time and games played.

Maybe. Loved his game.

I think that's a reach.

His paltry 4 assists against Chicago in 2013 didn't make the difference.

And he's a slimy little rodent. If he was on my team, I would have beaten him within an inch of his miserable life. He was THE reason one of the most clutch playoff goal-scorers in Bruins history wanted to leave. Seguin might have COST the Bruins a Cup or two.

This bullshit story is just never gonna die, huh?

Are we doing another summer of Bergeron Amateur Hour

Dude had 27 goals will win 10th or whatever Selke

He played with a herniated freakin disk in the playoffs

How anyone with an ounce of hockey knowledge not want him back is beyond me

The real reason is clear to me - you don’t want him back because the Bruins hurt you and you know he’s such a big component in their success if he goes the demise will start- and then you can complain and wallow in misery

Absolutely want him back

Oh, buuuuuh he played game 82 and he ruined my life ……get over it
I think they would be worse without him. At some point he is going to retire. At some point they also need to get some longer term answers as well, but with the cap being so tight, he almost has to come back imo for any hope of play-off success.

also I don't think playing game 82 ruined anyone's life, but it did effectively ruin their chances for a long run and was a stupid plan by all involved.

This bullshit story is just never gonna die, huh?
It's amazing that the HF site allows it to be rumored and written about.

When the Bruins won in 2011, I thought for sure they were off and running. They were going to be the new kings of the NHL and essentially do what the Blackhawks did. 2009 and 2010 were learning experiences and now (2011) they're going to win the Cups we never got in the Bourque-Neely Era.

How absurd that all seems now...
had a winning team in 2013 and 2014. just wasn't in the cards.

Not every team can be the Redwings/Blackhawks/Pens/Lightning, or Warriors/Pats etc in other sports. Its just not that common.

Former 1st overall pick Taylor Hall wins the MVP in 2018.

And look at him now.
Nice player.
Good complimentary piece.

That’s sports.

I’m just wondering if we’re in for another multi-decade drought. Seems to be the norm for this franchise.

Could go either way.

On the one hand, the cap tends to mean fewer peaks and valleys. Faster rebound for a team on the rebuild.

At the same time, they were regularly contenders from 1973-1993 or so and never broke through despite multiple trips to the finals.

And that was when they were a big(ger) market team in a 21 club league.

Now it’s harder to win with the hard cap and only half of the 32 teams making the tournament.

Lots of hot steaming dog shit takes on this guy lately so I guess I’ll chalk that up to abusing a family member because your boss was an asshole to you that day

he shouldn’t have played game 5-7, but bergeron wouldn’t be bergeron if he didn’t want to get back out there, it’s the playoffs

Monty’s decision and Monty needed to make the right, albeit much harder, choice

doesn’t change the fact that Bergeron is the only Bruin in 50 years to score the cup winner for Boston

he‘s up there with the greatest greats in terms of stats for this club

he battled through an incredibly severe concussion to come back and work his way up to being a # center

he’s an incredible human being on and off the ice

overrated? you must also think a floor is a ceiling.

best Bruin in my lifetime of watching hockey.

That 2nd cup would have been the icing on the cake

Yet looking at all that he has accomplished... including being a fantastic teammate, all the accolades, a cup, best regular season record (wont be broken in a very long time imo)... its a cake that is perfect the way it is.

It is still a bitter feeling the way it ended. But...also I really enjoyed the ride this season. Bergeron is a warrior. He plays the right way. Back checks hard. He will be always known for this.

I know 12 years is a long time --- but it's frustrating that we went from having these legit tough guys who could play the game in 2011:

Looch, Chara, McQuaid, Horton, Ference, Thornton

to:

???????? in 2023

Go from Chara who would stand up to people for teammates every night, and fight people. to patrice Bergeron who the last teammate he stood up for was Gryz in the locker room when Bruce Cassidy yelled at him 1.5 years ago.

Players follow leadership on the team and the bruins have gone soft.
