I hope he comes back. Thats mainly because Im greedy.

The day he does hang em up I will be depressed.

Aside the majesty of Orr , Bergy is my favorite all time Bruin. I dont know how many Ive seen and gone since mid 60s but he’s at the top.
Bergy and Dk will be known as the best 1 2 punch we ever had. Anyways it ain't over I have a feeling one more year.

The fan in me wants him to be back to play in the centennial season, his 20th season and not to end his career with this shameful loss. The realist sees that his body is breaking down, the team only can get worse from here what erases the chances of winning the cup even more and his wife expecting their fourth child in July. Unfortunately I think he hangs them up

I hope he does whatever he wants, but this team has one series win the past three seasons, wondering if that ultimately has anything to do with his decision. Guessing he and Krejci both come back, I am sure neither want their last season to be on a team that is a gigantic punchline.

It wouldn’t shock me if he retires but I think he’s coming back for one more and saying ahead of time it’s his last as a bruins skater. He’ll take some time off and be back with the organization in a development role, and eventually be named President of the Bruins taking over Neely’s role so Neely can “step down” instead of being fired

My initial thought after the season was they there was no way he would want to come back.

Is it possible he wants to go out with one last healthy shot at the cup? Maybe he doesn’t want his last memory in the NHL to be hurt and -6.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he even feels guilty about how the end of the season played out and feels like he owes the team. He doesn’t owe the Bruins anything at this point but he may feel that way.

I love Bergy. He’s one of my all time favorite players, but it’s time to move on.

The guy is pushing 40. If he comes back, it will be more of the same….He’ll play well the first half of the season, but as we get closer to spring, his body will break down and he’ll limp into and through the playoffs and we will all wonder what happened…..

That isn‘t his fault, and it’s not a knock on him. It’s just the effect of age on the human body. Mentally, you think you can still do it, and might WANT to still do it. Physically, you just can’t anymore.

Anybody over the age of 35 knows exactly what I’m talking about…

The more I digest this year's loss the more I am open to bringing Bergy back at a bit of a reduced role. Maybe if he isn't our number 1 C then any injuries to him won't impact the team as heavily. Roll out 3 1A/1B/1C lines and maybe try to reduce his PK mins a bit more.

Anyway, going to be a long and interesting offseason. See what Sweeney can pull off.

That an interesting observation...

Bergeron over his first 39 games: 15G / 17A
Bergeron over his last 39 games: 12G / 14A

Production wise it doesn't look like a significant drop-off, especially when you factor in that he averaged nearly 2 minutes less a night in his last 39 games.

You could clearly tell he was laboring already though by the time early to mid March came around, numbers or not.

This is why the coach got him a lot of rest the last few wee....what's that? He played a shit ton in March? Including the last game which was totally meaningless? AND he got hurt during that game?

The emotions at the end of game 7. The herniated disk that's going to need servicing. And the new baby on the way.

I just dont see it.

**** man.

2023 Post Season: Played 3 of 7 games, 1G / 0A; -6 with a herniated disk......

He'll be 1 year older if he comes back next year. To expect things to be different next year is wishful thinking.

Yeah, having him on the roster makes the team better, and he might be the difference between being a 6-8 playoff seed or missing entirely......best case scenario.

Last year he played 7 games, 3G/4A. The 3 prior years of playoffs before this year he combined for 24 points in 31 games. Do I expect him to have a herniated disk for the playoffs next year? no. Do I expect him to be banged up? yes and most of the guys in the playoffs are banged up and not 100% healthy.

Age! If he comes back, he can not take the huge minutes.... this year was an exception!
That remains to be seen. But my point is, there isn't a better centre on the team. Neither Zacha nor Coyle, or even Krejci if he returns, are better centres. You don't put your best centre on the third line. I get the idea: yes, it would be great let Bergeron age into a support role (if he chooses to keep playing). He'd be possibly the best 3C in the game. But we don't have the young stud centres at 1C or 2C to allow him to do that.

Thank god for that. Maybe after Bergy, he can put little jam back to how Bruins are playing. Getting really old to lose games/series because we get bullied and out-tackled.
Bergy is amazing human being but unfortunately that is not good quality in playoffs.
Bruins need new leadership who're ready to do anything to win Cup.
No more nice guy routines. Bring me back 2011 style team.
This "No more Mr. Nice Guy" is such a false narrative. The guy has proven himself to be a playoff warrior. Won the Cup once and been to the finals two more times. You don't get to tell someone like that what it takes to play in the NHL playoffs.

Of course not. But it pains to me to watch this passive emotionless playstyle that Bruins have. Go to scrums, yell at referee, punch Bennett to face. Don't let away team to come your building and let them start to hit and tackle after whistle. If referee lets those go then you have to give a proper reaction. They took totally unnecessary penalties. They should take those penalties from being aggressor. Bruins did have great PK. Give a punch and kill a penalty.

Agree... that is the problem. Still having a 38 years old as your top end player in today's hockey tells alot and it is not on Bergeron it's on management.

The problem is not having Bergeron back.... it is asking him to be your number one center!

I saw everyone on the devils bench running Trouba after the hit on Meier! NJ are in second round! They did not lose because of the stuff you are saying, they lost because execution was not there, top players with injuries, defence collapsing and goaltending not at his premium.

BTW, tying goal of game 6 - PP Florida caused by Laukko fighting the edge on the face-off with 19.!! And Florida was President trophy winner not long ago! That was and is a better team than most were saying.
