My prediction is Bergy goes through his reflection, sees they can retain essentially the same core, and hopes this recent loss made them better off for it. He announces he's coming back but makes it crystal clear it's his last season. (Hopefully in an agreed upon lesser capacity, without the #1 center load)

This would be an ideal scenario in hopes that one of Merkulov / Harrison / Poitras cracks the lineup and plays under his tutelage for 1 season.

Yup. Plus there's that stat about the year after the President's Trophy curse, teams go on to win the Cup. And let's not forget what happened after the horrible collapse against the Flyers in 2010.

Sign Bertuzzi and Nosek. If Nosek walks, then Freddy is 4C. In that case maybe keep Hathaway to have some experience on the 4th line. Otherwise I'm okay with Hathaway walking.

On D, sign Orlov. I like Clifton, but maybe he walks. Opens a spot for a youngster. It's not that I don't like Lindholm, although he was disappointing in the playoffs, it's just that I assume they can't afford to keep him and Orlov. I prefer what Orlov brings to the table.

Assuming DK doesn't return ad Bergy does:

Marchand - Bergeron - DeBrusk
Bertuzzi/Hall - Zacha - Pastrnak
Hall/Bertuzzi - Coyle - Frederic
Greer/Lauko - Nosek - Hathaway/Steen/Youth

Grz - McAvoy
Orlov - Carlo
Forbort - Clifton/Zboril

Ullmark
Swayman

That's still a damn good team. Maybe a few youths play their way onto the roster as well.
I think we’re about $18 million over the cap with this roster. Bertuzzi, Orlov, Ullmark, and Frederic would have to go. (Or some other combo of players like Hall, Grzcelyk, etc.)

We can’t bring everyone back with Swayman, Frederic, Bertuzzi, and probably Orlov about to get raises.

This exactly is what id like to see and then at seasons end, make him the VP of the club, and future President in time.

If he comes back, Bergeron IS the #1 centre. I don't see how or why he would play in a reduced capacity.

They let those guys do whatever they wanted, no answer in any way shape or form.
I was at the games where Brady Tkachuk ran rough shot all over the wings, even called out the whole bench and no response in those back to back games and that eventually was the end of the wings slim playoff hopes. This may not have been as severe, but just as impactful because like u said the Bruins let Matthew Tkachuk (and Bennett) do what he wanted, to who he wanted, and when. It was disheartening to watch to say the least.

Would love to have Bergy back. He's a Selke candidate this season and won it last season. Still plenty of game left. The only thing is that the coach needs to make damn sure Bergy's mins are reduced so that he is not so worn down/injured for the playoffs. Most people agreed entering this past season that Bergy should be rested more. What happened? He played more than he has played in six years, and it was needless. Asinine. He is still a very good 1C in this league. Just needs to have his TOI regulated better.

If you're solely looking at game played then sure. His ATOI this season though was 17:24, which was the 2nd lowest of his career. The lowest being his rookie season.

At some point the injuries take a toll on the body and it becomes both mentally and physically difficult to do what it takes to play at this level. He's given everything he has.

I don't think he returns. In fact, I'd bet on it.
I’m with you I don’t think he does either,he took some pretty good hits this year a few in the head area.I really don’t think he’s interested in coming back for a reduction in playing time .

I don't think he's coming back.

20 professional hockey seasons.
1294 regular season games.
170 playoff games.

He took a pay cut this year and the team clearly went all in. They had a record breaking season only to falter in the first round of the playoffs with Bergeron injured down the stretch.

He's done everything in this league. He doesn't owe us another season. I'd be completely content with him deciding its time.

We have to keep in mind that the Bergeron we saw in the playoffs had a herniated disc in his back.

He did have 60 points this year and is going to win the Selke. He’s not Eric Staal out there. If he comes back the Bruins just have to be way more mindful of his games played.
