It would not surprise me if he comes back for the centennial season and declares it his last.
I agree, although I'm not sure he would announce it in advance because i doubt he wants a year long farewell tour.

I think the way this season ended would be hard for him to stomach as the way for his career to end. I mean, we thought last year was bad....

And isn't next season the last on Marchand's contract? Come back, play one more season, retire together. I know Marchand has always said he wouldn't pressure Bergeron about playing, but given that he's almost in tears whenever someone asks him about Bergy retiring, you know Bergy knows how he feels. lol

I hope he comes back. Thats mainly because Im greedy.

The day he does hang em up I will be depressed.

Aside the majesty of Orr , Bergy is my favorite all time Bruin. I dont know how many Ive seen and gone since mid 60s but he’s at the top.
I never saw Orr play, so although I know he was the best, Bergy is my favorite. And always will be.

One more year, please, Bergy? I will send you cookies. It's the offseason, so you can have some.

He’s my favorite player. I will always be happy to see him on the ice.

Having said that, I just can’t see a reason why he would want to come back with the exception of his love of the game and his teammates. Maybe that’s enough.

I obviously don’t know what drives him, but it’s unlikely they improve upon this past seasons success or lack there of.

Whatever he decides I’m there for it.

Part of me never wants him to go, part of me wants to let these younger guys take over his role. I'd like to see the next step in their development when it becomes their team-- I think we will be pleasantly surprised. But at the same time, I never want to not see Bergy out there. I am torn.

Of course I guess the other wild card is family. Baby Bergy #4 is due soon. Maybe the wife says it's time to stay home?

And his dad, who knows if he's in remission, or if it's worse....

:dunno:

Have to think the B’s brass wants him for the centennial season.

Get Bergy back, find a way to keep Bert… we got another shot. I’m not ready to see him go but would totally understand.

In the best world, Bergeron would be on the second or third line helping a young center to develop next year!! The guy will be 38, played big big big and hard hard minutes, having lots lots and lots of injuries.

I hope he comes back. Wouldn't blame him if he doesn't. Not a whole lot to gain. Already proven he's one of he best. There is something to be said for leaving on your own terms. I can see the attraction to that.

That said, if he does decide to return... it's another shot. He has to see what we all see in this group... just another playoff team...... until proven otherwise.

This team is way too good to tank. Even if Zacha is the #1 C. Very least they are fighting for playoff position IMO. Might as well give it another go.

There were a few times this season with he and Krejci both, after a puck in the face, or another injury, or crushing hit, that I wondered if they said ‘I’m too old for this shit.’
I can't imagine having a career that results in as many injuries as hockey players get lol.

Bergeron, off the top of my head:

Concussions
Busted nose x billion
Various broken bones
Rib injuries
Shoulder injuries
Punctured/collapsed lung
Elbow surgery
Chronic groin issues and surgery
Herniated disc
Several yards worth of stitches

Eeeeeeeeeeek.

Low key think B’s might make a pitch for Matthews in the summer of 2024 if Bergy and/or Krejci retires. They need a top center.

Ah yes - the reverse Roger Clemens move. I don't like Matthews but it would be worth it just to watch the inevitable meltdown by the HFBoards Leaf fans.

I believe Monty said the players decided they wanted to play.

Seems this guy let everyone else do the coaching. Bergeron, goalie Bob...
And that's why they both need to go (Monty and Bergy). We need coach who make coaching decisions and captain who doesn't tell who are Bruins hiring (Foligno) and who are playing.
Bruins played better against Florida without Bergy. And if he was injured, then he has to take a blame to come to even try to play. Team was winning without him.

That's on Monty for putting him into the lineup.
You can't really think that Monty can take Bergeron out of lineup if he wants to play. That's laughable.

Thank god for that. Maybe after Bergy, he can put little jam back to how Bruins are playing. Getting really old to lose games/series because we get bullied and out-tackled.
Bergy is amazing human being but unfortunately that is not good quality in playoffs.
Bruins need new leadership who're ready to do anything to win Cup.
No more nice guy routines. Bring me back 2011 style team.
