Roster Moves: (Part II) Gostisbehere, 2022 2nd, 2022 7th to AZ, cap relief in return

If this was true, why wasn't there a line of GM's wanting to take him? The Ghost fans simply cannot get around this. Well, not plausibly.

Why did 27 NHL GMs think Jagr wasn't worth bringing back for cheap?

These guys make mistakes. There's no shortage of evidence to suggest NHL GMs don't reach their positions based on merit.

People who use the ideology "all 32 GMs passed on him" really don't have a good grasp on the situation. Tampa is one team right off the very top that has zero space to acquire any player including McDavid.

Sure they can move players out at bargain bin prices but my overall point being it's not just black and white.

I like how he's pretending that those numbers mean he wasn't pushed off the top unit by a horrible PP defensemen and that the misuse was only on the PP, instead of most egregiously at 5v5.

Also that the handling of the PP hasn't been absolutely baffling.
Even outside of Ghost being taken off the top unit for no reason, Gordon and Therrien essentially killed the entire unit by putting Giroux and Voracek on the wrong sides whenever they were with Ghost for two years. Whenever they'd shake up the units and put them on the correct sides, they also tossed Provorov at the point.

It was only this past year that they were finally with Ghost and in their proper spots again.

Last three seasons on the PP...

Ghost got more TOI than Provorov - 493:51 to 472:40, even though Ghost played 46 fewer games. He averaged 3:04 per game, only Giroux averaged more.

Ghost scored at 3.4 P/60, lower than Provorov's rate of 3.55 P/60

Ghost spent the majority of his time on the top unit

Damn facts!

LOL. Goner didn’t originate in 2017. I’m happy to take credit for it, but it was sometime in the 18/19 season.

Personally i'm glad he is gone . It has noting to do with his play i'm just sick and tired of the non stop arguing of over valuing and under valuing of him . FFS he somewhere in the middle of the argument , take it or leave it and move the F on . Good god !!!

Yeah finally we can all get along

It doesn’t bother that he’s gone. Even if we suppressed his value I think there’s risk in how he ages compared to defenseman of his ilk. Like if he were UFA this year I wouldn’t really get that excited to re-sign him. The tale of his career here bothers me more than his actual departure.

That said if we end up with Hamilton, I’ll gladly pay this price.

It's denial. It's been that way for three years now.

It was when his performance fell off a cliff. It was when he went unclaimed on waivers. It was when he was passed up in the expansion draft. It remains even after the Flyers were forced to trade a 2nd rd. pick just to get a team to take his salary.

Excuse after excuse after excuse after excuse. The coaches, the organization, his defense partners, every front office in the entire league being morons.... All to avoid coming to terms with the fact that, hey, maybe Ghost isn't good anymore.

Yeah, this is pretty much it. Not that Ghost isn’t good. He was decent, especially late last season. But doesn’t it tell you something when even after going on that hot streak, no team was interested in giving anything of value for him? The blame goes to Hextall for overpaying him (betting on him continuing to progress after his rookie season) by roughly 2-2.5 million and partly just due to bad luck he had with injuries since then. Which even Ghost admitted hampered him. Will he recover and become a good option for some team down the line? Maybe. He didn’t figure anywhere on the Flyers roster however.
Combination of factors, once again. But hey, easier to call everyone in the league idiots and prejudicial against players of Ghost’s ilk and call it a day.

noooo shot

The 2nd was a poor move. It will be interesting to see who Fletcher gets over the next week. They didn't pay to lose Ghost for the sake of it.

Agree with this. Fletcher almost needs to bring in a better player than Ellis for this to be worth it in IMO. Or a solid top 4 defenseman and top 6 winger.

IMHO, what I believe Fletcher needs to do is get Savard without paying Savard what his agent will want. Or trade for Manson. And include Voracek or JvR. And not retain significantly on them. And not give up crazy additional prospects/picks to include Voracek or JvR.

Ez-pz.

We could use a #4 RHD, and a bottom six forechecker.
Top six we're loaded, G, Couts, TK, Farabee, Hayes, JVR, Voracek, with Allison and Frost in the wings and Laughton and his 2.08 pp/60 at ES.
What we need is a 4th line that can "break even" when matched against better lines, freeing the Couts line for better matchups.

Shedding Voracek sounds like sounding they’re still looking to do, but they better be making a play for Eichel if they give him up with only Manson coming back.

I’m not sure Savard is the right choice long term. Signing him to a 3-4 year deal at 4-5M could hurt them moving forward. He was in a great spot in Tampa.

Not sure it was already mentioned... can't find the time to browse through this amass of pages... but I reckon the Flyers still owed the Yotes some for taking the Chris Prongers contract. That certainly factored into the package for taking Ghost. At least for now we are even. Those two orgs like to work with each other and keep doing in the future.
