Roster Moves: (Part II) Gostisbehere, 2022 2nd, 2022 7th to AZ, cap relief in return

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Getting rid of Myers and now Ghost I'm afraid of there thought process.
Is it playing Provy and Ellis 25 minutes a game so Ellis gets re-injured and Provy burnt out or are we putting up with Hagg for 15-20 minutes a game.

There's no reason that a player like Torey Krug, for example, has a good reputation league-wide and Ghost has a bad one. The only reason this is a reality is because Krug played for Boston and was used correctly and Ghost played for Philly and was jerked around.

Krug has scored 134 points in 176 games the past three seasons. Ghost has scored 69 points in 161 games. They're not even close in terms of production. It's like comparing Brayden Schenn (148 P in 199 GP) to Laughton (79 P in 184 GP).

One was on Boston and used correctly, one was on Philly and not used correctly.

Ability wise, Ghost is as good as Krug.

Well, you would think that they add a Top 4 RHD to pair with Sanheim, giving them a very solid Top 4 with a more than capable of 3rd pairing of York-Braun with Zamula backing York up.

If this was true, why wasn't there a line of GM's wanting to take him? The Ghost fans simply cannot get around this. Well, not plausibly.

Because they tanked his value by not using him correctly and doing other dumb shit like waiving him for some unnecessary cap savings.

He should have been a PP1 QB staple here for literally every one of the last 6 years, for example, but was replaced by Provorov for a long stretch because reasons.

All they had to do was use him as PP1 QB and pair him with a good quality defensive dman and feed him ozone starts. Instead they seemed completely perplexed on how to use a player despite the answer was beating them over the head with a spiked baseball bat.

Even if his contract wasn't moveable I'd much rather keep him for the remaining 2 years and deploy him properly (actually use him on the PP instead of Provy lmao) instead of giving away draft picks for nothing. If we can actually land a Hamilton or an Eichel with the cleared cap space then I'll eat crow but I'm not holding my breath.

Every team has a vast array of scouts looking into players. If this were true, those scouts would have identified it and the GM's would be all over it. Unless you're trying to say that you know more than the scouting staff and GM's of all 32 teams?

We hope that is what they are looking at but if they cannot land one then we are in trouble.

They are looking for a partner for Sanheim. Someone who is a defensive defenseman who is physical, and preferably, a right handed shot. Ghost does not at all fit that description, and they didn't want a salary of his size on the 3rd pair preventing them from filling the 2nd pair RD.

We'll see what happens. My guess is too many years and too much money for some middle of the road guy that ends up screwing us later on.

But I did like the Ellis trade so who knows. Your move Chuck.

He hasn't been since 17-18 when the injuries started really affecting him. Plenty of other players in Philly put up big numbers the past three years.

17-18 he was used as a top-pairing dman and on the top PP.

18-19 and 19-20 he did battle injuries that hampered him, but when he was in the lineup he was not properly utilized more often than not.

I'm not on the "Ghost should be on the top-pair" or "Ghost was better than Provorov" here train like some, but I definitely can acknowledge he was dicked around here.

What do you call it when you take a big dumper in your hands to parade around and laugh at everyone who smells and sees shit and acts disgusted?
Idk but I know a guy who's well versed with Merriam-Webster's dictionary, I'm sure he knows

It's denial. It's been that way for three years now.

It was when his performance fell off a cliff. It was when he went unclaimed on waivers. It was when he was passed up in the expansion draft. It remains even after the Flyers were forced to trade a 2nd rd. pick just to get a team to take his salary.

Excuse after excuse after excuse after excuse. The coaches, the organization, his defense partners, every front office in the entire league being morons.... All to avoid coming to terms with the fact that, hey, maybe Ghost isn't good anymore.

Last three seasons on the PP...

Ghost got more TOI than Provorov - 493:51 to 472:40, even though Ghost played 46 fewer games. He averaged 3:04 per game, only Giroux averaged more.

Ghost scored at 3.4 P/60, lower than Provorov's rate of 3.55 P/60
