Where would Fleury rank amongst our defender prospects?

He's better than all of them.

I don't like Honka's value at #17, undersized offensive defensmen have a pretty iffy track record & aren't being taken much in the first round lately. I think that's why you see him completely out of some lists top 30.

You could possibly get a similar player in DeAngelo who comes with some baggage but similar skillset in the second round & inherit less of a risk.

You will not get a player with a similar skillset to DeAngelo in the second round. He might play a similar style as an offensive defenseman, but DeAngelo is one of the most skilled players in this draft. His numbers are absurd for a defenseman that played on that awful Sarnia team.

Kempe is a name that intrigues me. Maybe close to NHL ready? Reach at 17?
I'm settling in on him as the best wing prospect for the Flyers in this draft. He has physical tools that can shake up things when he is on the ice.
If the wing that they want isn't there when they pick, I'd rather see them take Fleury or Sandheim if they were still available than to take a step down forward.

Can someone sell me on picking Sanheim? He seems like the Morin pick with the way he has rose up the rankings. Not to mention he had a strong U18s.

Awesome skater. Not so much in terms of pure speed, but his edge work and agility are top notch. I think I could watch him walk the blueline all day- very Gostisbehere-like. At 6'4 he totally catches you off guard the way he plays. Likes to carry the puck and jump into the rush. Great passer. Looks like a guy who is thinking a play or two ahead before the puck gets to him. Huge reach and good feet, he's going to be tough to beat in his own end. I'm starting to like him more than Fleury.

Two big pluses in my eyes. Only played one season of major junior hockey. He's a beanpole. This tells me he's a late bloomer and has tons of room to grow. Once he starts to fill out he could be scary good (sound familiar?). He's going to get more pop in his first couple steps (something I think he's not great at) and his slapper is going to be heavier.

I won't be shocked if he goes before our pick. This draft is light on 1st round defensemen and some team will probably fall in love with his upside. Plays a much different game than Morin, but they do have similarities.

You totally read that wrong, I was suggesting that DeAngelo could be that guy in the second round not that there's another player similar to him.

As far as Fleury goes, I've heard he can play a bit soft for his size, and doesn't like playing a real physical game. I can't imagine that our scouting team would be too high on him after hearing that.

Reading about Kempe, I really like him. He's not exactly lighting up the SHL so I doubt he makes any NHL rosters right away, but he sounds like a solid pick. Good size (still needs to put on weight), plays a gritty game, good defensively, and just a generally good all around skill set. I wouldn't be surprised if we grabbed him at 17. He sounds like a Flyers type pick.

I'm leaning towards Milano or Kempe. I'm not a big fan of the d prospects this year. It's so weak. A far cry from last years class. With that being said if we go defense Sanhiem or Fleury are decent choices.

We need a winger with size. Fiala is talented but id preferably like that talent to come in a bigger package because there's always concerns with how well smaller forwards game will be able to translate to the pro level. Besides the fact that this team lacks high end talent with size, bigger framed guys have many more options in being effective professionals.

I would take Milano though, but if for some reason one of the higher ranked wings with more size fall to us, I'd go that route. I'd still take Perlini over Milano.

Random fact. Found out Anthony DeAngelo lived on the street across from where I live. Weird.

There seems to be enough concern about character that he might be available in the 2nd round ... just in time for the Flyers still to take Hunter Smith.

probably 1st in terms of being nhl ready. in terms of ceiling 3rd behindmorin and ghost.

If all d prospects reach their ceiling them Hagg will be a good bit better then Ghost. Hagg has the same skill set with a NHL frame.

If Gostisbehere hits his absolute ceiling, you are talking about Erik Karlsson type production. Obviously that is unlikely but since you brought it up...Hagg cannot touch that. Hagg has good tools, but Gostisbehere is on another level. I get the feeling Hagg is going to be a guy that will leave you wanting more most of the time. Hopefully I am wrong.

Not sure why you're down on Hagg. He probably needs 1 year in the AHL and then he should be NHL ready. He gets good grades in every category. I'd imagine he becomes a 2way, well rounded 1B, 2A, or 2B.

I imagine he'll be far too good in his skillsets to slip into a 3rd pairing for the majority of his NHL career. Possible, but he would have to stagnate or get injured.

The concern I have with Hagg is how well he can contribute offensively. He doesn't have to have an O game, but it would be appreciated.

I wouldn't say I'm down on him, I just have a lot more confidence in Gostisbehere being an impact player. I don't question Hagg's ability. The 10-15 times I've watched him, his skills are evident. He's just not always engaged in the game as if it comes too easy to him. That's OK in juniors but it could catch up to him against the big boys. There's a reason he lasted until #41 and it wasn't for a lack of skill.

It sounds like you are a little too high on him. 1B, 2A, or 2B? Yeah if everything goes right. I think he's more likely to be a mid-pairing guy. 2nd PP unit. PK.

If I had to bell curve him -- I'd put him smack in the middle of a mid-pairing guy.

Karlsson?

I am thinking more Rafalski.
