It's amazing how little consensus there is for the top tier of this draft.

I can't remember a draft where the 1st overall was actually up in the air. The closest I can remember is 2010 with Seguin and Hall, but most had Hall ranked #1 and expected him to go #1 (TSN hyping the 'Taylor vs. Tyler!!' thing made it seem closer than it was).

I've only been watching the draft since 2004, but it seems unprecedented to me for so many different publications to have a different guy #1.

2011 was kind up for grabs, RNH's size made things interesting since it wasn't a slam dunk that he would play in the NHL right away while guys like Landeskog & Larsson were.

Not that I think RNH is a bad player but Landeskog is exactly the type of player that club needs right now & it likely prevents them from drafting Yakupov who again I don't think is a bad player but view redundant with Hall & Eberle there.

I thought Kapanen had dropped in the eyes of a lot of scouts? Tenth is pretty high. I would still be interested in him if he's around at 17.

Also, I feel like nearly every year the draft gets talked about as not being as great as the last one, yet the player comparisons that get thrown around make it sound like the top 30's a gold mine. For instance, from that Sportsnet ranking article--in regards to Dal Colle-- “I think he’s Jeff Carter,†says one scout. “I see more Ryan Getzlaf in him,†says another. “He’s further advanced at this stage than both Carter and Getzlaf, actually.â€

They certainly could use Landeskog now, but from what I remember RNH seemed to be the consensus #1 and everyone knew Edmonton was going to take him. I was also on vacation leading up to that draft, so I may have some false memories. I just remember the panel showing a live feed from a bar in Edmonton before the draft and they were all chanting "Nugent Hopkins NUM-BER-ONE!"

I agree with you, but they're also getting quotes from scouts who are high on those players. For every scout that says he's "more advanced than Carter and Getzlaf", there are dozens who would laugh at that notion.

That said, I think this draft is getting severely underrated. I think between the high skill guys (Fiala, Fabbri, Milano, etc.) at least one will end up being a shocking steal like Giroux was.

Some lists dropped him considerably like in the 20's but he's mostly been ranked in the middle of the first round by most. I think he'll be on the board at #17 but whether the Flyers draft him is anybody's guess. Personally I'm not really crazy about him & have a lot of players I like more that I think will be available at our pick.

He was to a degree (on most scouting lists he was) but I think a lot of were a second guessing the thought of him being the #1 pick for reasons I mentioned above making it seem closer than it maybe was.

2011 was kind of similar to this draft in all honesty, there really wasn't much separation at all neither.

Actually here's their full top 30:
1. C Sam Bennett
2. RD Aaron Ekblad
3. LW Nick Ritchie
4. C Leon Draisaitl
5. C Sam Reinhart
6. LW Michael Dal Colle
7. RW Jake Virtanen
8. LW Nikolaj Ehlers
9. LW William Nylander
10. RW Kasperi Kapanen
11. C Ivan Barbashev
12. RW Alex Tuch
13. C Jared McCann
14. LW Brendan Perlini
15. LW Adrian Kempe
16. C/LW Robby Fabbri
17. LD Haydn Fleury
18. RW Kevin Fiala
19. RW David Pastrnak
20. RW Jakub Vrana
21. C Dylan Larkin
22. LW Sonny Milano
23. RW Nikita Scherbak
24. LW Brendan Lemieux
25. LD Dominik Masin
26. RD Julius Honka
27. C John Quenneville
28. RW Joshua Ho-Sang
29. LW Nikolay Goldobin
30. G Thatcher Demko

The article format sucked badly on my phone so I didn't see it initially.

Yeah, that's true.

Yeah, I'm really hoping for Milano. Though, I have very limited knowledge on him besides that he has good puck skills and is tenacious on the puck(according to that quote hockeyfreak7 posted on the pg. 17).

Kempe's another guy I could totally see the Flyers going for. He's the least talked about, but that's only really because there's so little info/video on him. From what I've read on him, he's a less physically imposing Landeskog. Seems like the type of guy who could complete the Couturier-Read line in a few years.

I just need the draft to get here. Enough speculation.

Whatever happened to Roland McKeown? Is he still projected by some scouts to go in the first round?

Other defensemen jumped him pretty much. He's still rated as late first rounder by most but yeah his stock has dropped. He was probably the third defensemen behind Ekblad & Fleury for a while there.

Metzler likes him a lot (I believe Kempe is his #1 choice at #17). He watches a lot of European games throughout the year.

Ryan Murray's availability alone should've prevented that.
That pick alone just tells you how bad of a GM Tambellini was.

Kempe's also two days removed from being eligible for next year's draft. Youngest player in the draft, and he played the full year with the men in Sweden. His numbers were not far off of Nylander's (both played for MODO), too, though SHL stats are not accurate measures of ability.

Hmm, intriguing prospect for sure. He's also presumably friends with Hagg.

His brother Mario was a Flyers draft pick back in 2007 (5th round) as well.

From what I've read, I want Honka.
From what I've seen, I'd be fine with either Fiala or Vrana.

EDIT: that's if they don't trade up or down.

Do teams have 5 minutes or 10 minutes to make their selection in the first round? I'm going to be out on Friday but I want to try and make it back home by the time they pick at 17 (assuming they don't trade up or down).

Watching ~15 games of him this year for Modo I have to say I was impressed. Big guy, great speed and is responsible defensively. He is pretty aggressive as well from what I saw, does not shy away from hits. He did not look out of place in the SHL.

He actually looked better than Nylander in the games I saw of Nylander... though the glimpses of Nylanders absurd hockey brain and passing were apparent at times and mean it is understandable why he will likely be top ten.

I imagine the Flyers know pretty much everything about Kempe with Hagg playing on the same team.

I would not mind Kempe... but I do not think he has the upside of some of the other forwards who could be available, I duno why, he has a lot of fantastic physical attributes to be a good two-way player who can score goals and tax defencemen in both speed and strength. But I would be pretty ok with getting him, he can sure play hockey.

I know we have Morin, Hagg, Gost, and Alt but is anyone else happy to see Hadyn Fleury dropping. Wasn't he a top ten pick earlier this season?

I'd take him over Kempe or even Tuch.
