Fleury's another good piece to have in the system, but I wouldn't put too many chips down on him being any kind of blueline savior. Nothing too outstanding in his game. He's certainly not the kind of guy who will be making a strong impact any time soon. I'd rather go a different direction with the pick. I don't think he'll be available either.

I think a couple of the later defenders have similar potential to Fleury. Honka and Dougherty, in particular, are guys I might rank ahead of him.

My wishlist, more or less in order:

Milano
Fiala
Kempe
Fabbri

Barbashev
Vrana
Larkin
Perlini
Tuch

I find it tougher than usual to compare the forwards and defenders this year. Don't know why. If we take a defender in round one, I'd want it to be Honka. I like Dougherty a lot, but he'd be a reach at 17.

I don't like Honka's value at #17, undersized offensive defensmen have a pretty iffy track record & aren't being taken much in the first round lately. I think that's why you see him completely out of some lists top 30.

You could possibly get a similar player in DeAngelo who comes with some baggage but similar skillset in the second round & inherit less of a risk.

I still like Sanheim & Dougherty after Ekblad & Fleury in this draft.

Yeah, I would agree that it's bad value. I just don't think any of the defenders are particularly good value at 17 (other than Ekblad, lol). I'd love to trade up from 48 to get a late first or early second to take one of Honka, Dougherty, or Sanheim, then, though.

The only players I've seen that I definitely don't want are Tuch and Ho-Sang

Mines Ho-Sang and Sanhiem. First is obvious and the other was a guy where end of the season and tournament skyrocketed him. Luckily most rankings have him as a super later first or not a first. Would be a hugeeee extreme risk to take him at 17.

I agree with all of this. Sheltered, small, offensive defensemen usually aren't worth a first round pick. We already have Ghost, who may need to be sheltered for a while.

I know we have Morin, Hagg, Gost, and Alt but is anyone else happy to see Hadyn Fleury dropping. Wasn't he a top ten pick earlier this season?

I'd take him over Kempe or even Tuch.

I don't think anyone's really falling. After 5 or so it's a cluster **** of guys so you get a wide range of opinions. All it takes is one team to fall in love with a guy and with a lack of top end defenseman, I wouldn't be surprised if he goes around 10.

You don't want the guy who plays his best games when the games get bigger? Sainheim's lack of exposure early in the year had more to do with playing on arguably the best blueline in the CHL and getting overshadowed by his teammates. Not to mention it was his first season in the WHL so he had ZERO hype preseason. Hugeeee risk at #17? As my man Warren Buffet says: “Be Fearful When Others Are Greedy and Greedy When Others Are Fearful”. Picking guys like Sanheim in the middle of the first round is how you find a franchise defender without picking in the top 5. You have to find guys that haven't been in the spotlight. Sanheim is that guy. You can take the Pulock's and McKeown's of the world that everyone has seen and evaluated to the fullest extent.I'll take my chances with the Morin's, Sanheim's, and others with the green arrow every single time.

Good post, and while I'm not a huge fan of Sanheim myself, I would take everything you just said apply it to Jack Dougherty. He's the gem that's been totally hidden, imo.

One thing I will say about this draft. It's going to be one of the most exciting considering we don't really know were anyone is going to go. There certainly seems to be a lot of parity in the 1st round.

My realistic wish list in order:

Kapanen/Fiala (I would really like one of those two)
Fleury (I think he could slide to 17)
Milano
Vrana
Fabbri

Minus a lot of the union games I caught in person this year, I haven't seen much of any of these prospects to be able to determine who I want the flyers to draft.

My personal preference would be to grab a forward with the first pick and a defenseman with our 2nd pick. The first really seems up for debate between a lot of you but with our 2nd pick, based on stats and scouting reports a lone, Roland Mckeown seems like he could be there at number 48. For anyone who knows anything about him, does he seem to have good upside? Seems to be able to put points up and skate the puck very well.

If Fleury makes it to 17 we would need to take him because that would be a major steal. I've been hoping he slides to 17 but I find it really doubtful. I know our defensive prospect are getting better as our wing prospects aren't as strong but Fleury at 17 would be the best pick available in my opinion

Can someone sell me on picking Sanheim? He seems like the Morin pick with the way he has rose up the rankings. Not to mention he had a strong U18s.

probably 1st in terms of being nhl ready. in terms of ceiling 3rd behindmorin and ghost.

I believe Ghost is more NHL ready than Fleury would be if we drafted him at 17. Sanheim is also a good pick there. I know people want wingers but realistically it will be 2-3 years before these players will be cracking the lineup and contributing on an impact level. We haven't had a #1 dman developed here for quite some time. I am willing, with our core, to have us take more defenders this year and worry about the wingers through free agency or what we already have.

Having a farm system of Morin, Hagg, Ghost, Sanheim/Fleury would be great. Alt can be thrown in as well. Just keep drafting these kids and we are bound to strike gold sooner or later rigth?

I believe the ceiling part though. Morin is by far our best chance of having a true #1. Ghost might turn out to be one or close to it, or might be a MAB. Hopefully he becomes a Duncan Kieth haha.

I wonder if the Flyers would try to trade up for Nylander as well. Ton of skill, offensively dynamic and great skills/hands. He might make it out of the top ten(not likely but we always see people drop). I would love a chance at him.

He's definitely not dropping out of the top 10. Too skilled and highest upside in the draft.

I am not saying it's likely but we have seen every year someone drops. If it does happen, I would try to move up as fast as possible. I wonder what the cost to move from 17 to 10/11 would be.

I dont know who but you are right. Players constantly drop. Pick one guy in most mocks in the top 10. Someone alwaysssss drops
