You can't be serious. Couts fell in the rankings not because of mono but because the scouts were picking apart his skating. It was for good measure too. We all want Couts to improve his skating. If he was an average skater he would be an absolute force in this league.

I never saw any character issues with him. Seemed like Jtown was impying that in his post.

To illustrate my point, here is a snip of HP's scouting report on Milano:

He's an aggressive defender, and desperately wants that puck back from you so he can have it. He engages physically, finishes his checks, and is a bit of an antagonist in his own right.

I want the Flyers to pick this kid if he still around at their pick. I'm guessing he will be picked earlier, though.

Not necessarily character issues, but at the time wasn't it said that Couturier didn't interview well with teams? Perhaps I'm remembering wrong.

And on HoSang:

That assessment is bang on for JHS. It perfectly describes my observation of his biggest weakness from the first time I saw him.

that assesment sounds just like patrick kane, a guy who is less than stellar away from the puck.

Well Couts has been here 3 years now and there hasn't been one problem with him character wise. Sounds like it was all B.S.

Some people just don't interview well. Doesn't mean they have a ****** personality.

Bad interview =/= character issues.

There's an NHL scout quoted in the Hockey Prospect Black Book how they weren't even on planning to interview Ho-Sang at the combine.

Yes, he's highly skilled, but if you can't wrap your head around the fact that multiple NHL scouts are turned off by character issues and how big of a deal that is, then I don't know what to tell you.

Look at Nikita Filatov. He was even a better prospect in terms of offensive talent compared to Ho Sang, and he busted because of his character issues.

No, it doesn't. Patrick Kane can be described as less than stellar without the puck, but he at least actively reads plays and makes decisions to maximize his chances of getting the puck on his stick.

My biggest problem with HoSang is that he just skates around with seemingly no purpose when he doesn't have the puck. That's a problem. He doesn't appear to be reading or reacting to the play like Kane does, but rather, he skates aimlessly until he happens onto the puck.

i remember ottawa , and their fans being turned off big time by coots and his interview.

Ottawa didn't like Couturier even before the combine. The story goes that Murray and the scouts went to watch Couturier, and "couldn't last the whole game" before they decided to leave earlier.

Couturier didn't fall because of character issues (nor am I even suggesting that I don't like HoSang because of character issues).

Couturier seems like a very quiet and reserved person, I wouldn't expect him to be that great in interviews. I would be shocked if it was an issue of him saying something wrong.

If there was anything, which I obviously don't know one way or another, it could have been simply that the coaches or GM or whomever didn't like his personality or his maturity level. A lot can be gleaned from an interview besides the answers to the questions being asked. I have no idea what they ask or what they look for in a combine interview, but you can probably gauge a guy's maturity pretty well in an interview just by how he handles himself answering questions, or personality quirks.

Well based on every interview I've ever heard from him I think he appears to be a very mature person. It could possibly be that he seemed to be a bit too timid and quiet, which in a game like hockey isn't really a good thing. I think we kinda even saw that a bit when he first got here, he wasn't very aggressive even though he was very smart and played well. I think this year I noticed him being tough, mean, and aggressive a lot more than before, both during play and after the whistle.

Who knows, I might be off here but that's what I'd guess if asked.

Yeah, I remember how everybody praised Couts for his maturity during his rookie season, so I don't think that was the issue. If anything, he just seems like a shy kid. Teams might have been worried about "pushback" and all that good stuff.

That's exactly the new type of aggressiveness we saw out of him this year, and that wasn't the only time he did that type of thing.

Quiet, and then sudden rage. Character issues galore. Toews was victimized and our front office should have seen this coming. I expect to see more of this. Call a shrink immediately.

'Couturier' is old Gaelic for 'volcano that skates.' An alternate definition is: 'the thinnest crust over the deepest volcano.'

Couturier has definitely developed a type of mean streak at times.

His pest game is also underrated. He is pretty liberal with his stick work and I have seen many opposing players get agitated towards him.

Imagine if he played with that snarl every game! Same goes with Coburn I guess.

Does this look like someone who can snarl?

Melnyk knows Coots gonna be a very good player, so he told Murray not to draft him to avoid giving him a big contract in the future.
