If LSchenn was always so terrible why did he go 5th overall?

I'm not saying Schenn is or was ever terrible, I'm just saying that fundamentally, Ekblad is a totally different player. Schenn was never going to put up much offense and was always supposed to be a physical shutdown guy.

Ekblad is also simply a much, much, much better prospect that Schenn ever was. To compare him to Schenn in the first place shows a lack of knowledge for the simple fact that they're totally different players.

The questions stem from: how much did Ekblad's physical maturity play a role in how dominant he was in the OHL.

Schenn was physically mature when he was in the OHL, much like Ekblad. Schenn struggled with the speed of the game once he hit the NHL level. There are some concerns with Ekblad in that same regard.

i actually agree with some scouts who say that he wont be much better at 24 as he is at 18.

once thing you have to look at with ekblad is that his physical development is not going to increase exponentially. He is already built like a grown man.

However right now he is so talented and developed that he can step in and play top line minutes. so while he may not get better his floor is already pretty freaking high.

The thing that's disappointing is that I know since I want them to draft Milano he's the one player they absolutely will not get. I don't expect anything to ever work out for me like that so I'm confident the opposite will happen. I just don't want a big strong guy who only has 2nd or 3rd line upside..

Hextall strongly hints at #Flyers trading up in draft.

Guys, I'm scared. :(

I honestly see him trading back before he trades up. They loved collecting 2's & 3's out there in LA over the years.

Dale Tallon said the other day he's only trading back as far as #8. I think he's targeting one of Dal Colle, Ehlers, Ritchie, Nylander, or Virtanen.

IMO, it only makes sense to trade up into the top 8. Trading up to 10 or 11 isn't going to land you a much better player, if even a better player at all.

Though, it depends on the Flyers' internal list. Maybe their top tier consists of 12 guys in which case it could make sense.

If we're trading up, I'd hope we're looking at Ehlers or Nylander, and maybe Ritchie. I don't want to trade up for Virtanen or Kapanen or Fleury.

@BroadStBull: Hextall says there is a "fair chance" Flyers will draft a player who becomes a top-6 forward.

Omg we might be going for skill!!!!! And he said forward!!!

@davegisaac: Sounds like #Flyers have talked with other teams already, although that seems early. Hextall says after 10 is a dropoff.

Gotta think Nylander or Ehlers

@BroadStBull: Hexy is high on D Anthony DeAngelo, a Sewell, NJ, native expected to go in first round.

Oh knows... Get a top 10 pick and take DeAngelo. Typical lyers move right here.

Hoping he means 2nd round. Or another first somehow.

I'm worried about what it would realistically take to get up to 8ish... my untouchables would be Giroux, Voracek, Schenn, Couturier, Read, Simmonds, Mason, and the 3 top D prospects + Laughton (unless we draft an NHL ready center). That doesn't leave much in terms of value other than Coburn and possibly Lecavelier to the right team.

@BroadStBull: Hexy gives high grades to Milano, Larkin and Tuch. A couple may be available at No. 17.

MILANO!!!
But there is Larkin which I dont dislike but another center

I have no clue how we will be able to move up in the draft. We lack many tradeable assets ( draft picks, and prospects).

I'm pretty confident that Laughton/Morin/Gostisbehere (maybe Hagg) + 17 gets you into the top 10. I'm not advocating that at all, but I don't know that lack of assets will be the barrier. Lack of willingness to move those advanced assets? Sure. That said, all of those players were drafted under a different GM.

Honestly, I really hope Hextall isn't being honest. I want the GM to play it as close to the vest as possible. Sure, I like to know, but I'd prefer the other GMs not know who we like.

i said tradeable assets, and in no way shape or form do i look at morin ghost laughton or hagg as tradeable assets. Stolarz as well.

Ok, I guess my definition of tradeable assets is different. By your definition, I don't believe any NHL team has the assets necessary to move up.
