The real issue is the year 17 slump for a guy like Jordan Staal. If I had a nickel for every year 17 slump I’ve seen…

Speaking of Staal. The guy was dead quiet the first half of the season, a lot of us thought he was losing it. I feel like Nino came to the rescue being on his line. Going to be interesting where Staal finishes point wise. I could imagine him falling off an offensive cliff this this season w/o Nino.

I think what happened with jordan is that he realized from eric's experience of trying to dial it back up to play again and not being able that the reaper was coming for him, too. he was playing as dialed in as I can remember and to me, he might have even picked up nino to be honest. that line was balls out every time over the boards in the second half. I think that's why jordan took it so badly when the season ended the way it did. your big brother is always the horse you chase athletically, especially if they're really good at it. passing someone isn't always a pleasant experience. it can be a cold reminder of the passage of time.

Meh, when Svech took out Lindholm with a hard, clean check none of us got upset. I get that Trouba has more of a reputation, but he made a hard, clean check on Jarvis, same as Svech did.
I haven't watched the videos in a while but I think a clear difference is Svech was shoulder to chest, no head contact at all. I definitely remember head contact on Jarvis, whether that was Trouba's fault or not I won't be the judge but it was there.

I put multiple still shots in the thread back then, elbow tucked and drove through the shoulder/chest as primary point of contact.

head contact is legal under the current NHL rules, provided the head isn’t the primary point of contact. I get that Trouba has a reputation, but that one was a clean hit.

EDIT: Here is the link to the thread with the still shots.

Fair enough. I’m sure there are plenty of Boston fans that feel the same about Svechnikov.
Except it was one hit and he basically never threw anymore the rest of the series...the other guys legit have a reputation for doing shit like Wilson, Marchand, Cooke, Trouba, Kadri. If Trouba had one questionable hit, rather than questionable hits in most games, it wouldn't get the same reaction

Maybe not quite as strong of a reaction, but go read the reaction many Boston fans had with the Svechnikov hit, even later on in the series and afterwards. Some were calling for outright dirty retaliation to injure him.

My point being that even a clean hit that injures a player can cause fans to not like the hitter because of it. I personally don’t hate Trouba because of his hit on Jarvis because it was a clean hit and one I’d want our players to make.

If others feel differently, that’s fine, I’m just giving my take on it. Not defending Trouba’s past history or trying to change anyones views of him, just giving mine.

Yea, but Boston fans are...well Boston fans. They're definitely high up there on the "dish it but can't take it" scale...I mean they were practically calling for Tro's head after the Prius vs Lambo thing and going nuts over that.

I get and agree with your point though, I just find those vocal folks to be the outliers and not worthy of the time/attention. Repeat offenders just get a lot less leeway for a reason...they're masters of "technicalities" and "accidently (on purpose)". Like James Neal all those years ago making runs at Schenn & Giroux (I think) with 100% full intention of blowing their heads off. But they were able to mostly avoid the hits and he got like a 1 game suspension for hurting one of them, but it should have been more given the intent of those hits. Trouba's elbow came flying UP and out as he made the hit, that gives a much worse intent

If I have learned nothing in the past few years reading crap on the internet more than I did in my earlier years, there are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more individuals out there lacking in basic cognitive reasoning, intellect, intelligence, vision, basic comprehension of the nhl rule book, etc. than I ever thought possible before..

In a general sense I always knew there were idiots and homers and blind stupid people in the world. I avoided engaging in stupid pointless back and forth with someone hiding behind their belief that they were anonymous on the internet. I figured a good chunk of people couldn't really be that stupid and were just trying to be a $hit disturber due to some perverted sense of entertainment they got from posting inflammatory idiotic things on the internet.... but I was wrong... there really are a lot more morons than I originally thought... I may be one of them when it comes to certain topics or situations... I sure hope not but I at least have to acknowledge the possibility and try to be better educated so I don't show my a$$ or say something just as moronic from time to time.....

Entirely too many people should take to heart the advice "if you dont have anything nice to say then maybe you shouldn't say anything at all" or "better to be thought an idiot then open your mouth and remove all doubt".... large chunks of certain fan bases would be better served taking those tidbits onboard.....

/end philosophic examination for today...
