Not my point at all.

This is obviously a hell of a trade for you guys.

I was just laying out the situation as I was seeing it: Subban is a mystery right now, he should be a Norris contender.Even if he's just a good #2, it's still a good trade. He is a clutch player but a bad clock player, and his off-ice personality might be a distraction depending whether we believe what we hear or not.I was presenting my general thought as a MTL fan.

The point is Subban is only 30 years old and defensemen can age like wine moreso than forwards. He could still put it all together and have many consecutive years as a Norris contender.

oh ok. that’s not what i thought you meant when you said:

So Subban getting traded for virtually nothing at that age is not exactly reflecting highly on him, is it?

but ok

Hughes... now a legit top pairing dman for pennies... I'm getting very pumped going into free agency and next season... I think we're going to see a much better team on the ice

Read the entire convo, the quote standing alone is too out of context to make sense IMO.

I think it's a fact that Subban's value is far from what it used to be, not an opinion.

We could stop now and we already are way better.

Yup, mix in Smith and (maybe) Boqvist and that's a big injection of talent. If we can get a top 6 forward too this would have been the dream off-season, but I wouldn't complain if that doesn't happen.

We add a top six forward and I would be shocked if a healthy Devils squad doesn’t finish top 3 in the Metro.

Honestly I think we could compete for that already.

imo this only puts more pressure on the Hall situation... do we try to re-sign him... or trade him for a kings ransom?...
all I know is... I don't want to lose him for nothing

I have full faith in Shero after this trade.... this is an absolute steal...

super excited for the upcoming season...

Well if he was still a Norris contender, would he get traded for a bag of pucks?

The guy is 30 years old, not 37.Doug Harvey won his first of seven Norris trophies at age 30.Defensemen can age like good wine.Everything Scott Stevens did for you guys in the playoffs happened after age 30.

So Subban getting traded for virtually nothing at that age is not exactly reflecting highly on him, is it?
Taylor Hall got traded at 24 for a defenseman that isn't anywhere near the defenseman equivalent of himself. Why was he traded for so cheap? Could it be because of the same reasons? He's another player that had the ''Locker room'' negativity attached to his name.

The first time Subban was traded, it was for a decent equivalent (not as good as Subban and a little bit older and on a million year long contract, but still closer in comparison than Hall and Larsson). Nashville was getting a guy that many (including me) thought was the better player, as well as a bit younger, but Subban's cap hit (as well as 6 years left of term) was a bit over the top in 2016 (not so much anymore with a salary cap over $80 million) was a bit extreme and Weber's term was a bit extreme.

The second time he got traded (today), it was by a team that needs the $9 million in cap space more than him, while the team that got him needed him and on top of that, could take on his cap hit and absorb it with no problem.

Players even better than Subban had been traded multiple times by 30 years old, so it's really not necessarily an indictment on Subban that he's been traded 2 times by age 30.

I became a big fan of Subban when he donated all of that money to the childrens hospital in Montreal... he does alot of charitable work and seems like a great person... He's now the go to guy for NJ.... I think he's going to thrive here and become a fan favorite...
this takes less pressure of Severson as well... I I think we're going to see a much improved team next season
and Hughes....

Ok, not gonna read this thread entirely. Some people need to calm down a bit. He isn't a Norris guy at this point and it is perfectly fair for some people to question his locker room personality considering he's been moved twice now (both of which entailed rumors about his locker room persona). We can call agree he is probably a great dude...that doesn't mean he's a great teammate. Who knows? None of us, that's for sure.

That said, to people legitimately concerned about the above: Who the hell cares?! It doesn't matter. His contract lines up perfectly to give this team flexibility if he doesn't work out. The only risk in what the Devs gave up is Davies becoming a middle pairing guy. Big whoop.

I've known about this potential deal for a bit (again, see post history). Made reading some of the mainboard expected returns absolutely hysterical.

Has there been any legit talk of Subban being a problem in Nashville. I mean it seams obvious that this move was because they were putrid up front this year (which cost them in the 2nd half and the playoffs) have approximately 1,000 defensemen and need space to sign a top center.

The returns when it was announced were nuts. Lots of Hall 1 for 1. Severson and a 1st.

Like I said, I wish him and you guys the best.

But just as it's easy to call him a lockerroom cancer, it's also easy to dismiss all the rumors as people hating him for being ''outspoken'' (read black).

Weird how no one ever hated Iginla, DSP, Kevin Weekes, Seth Jones or Joel Ward and in fact all their locker rooms loved them to death
