At his peak Subban was a horse. Not sure what happened or why he lost a step, and whether it's permanent or not.

One of the best at spin-o-ramas type of puck protection.Sick edge work.Very strong. Can lay some devastating open-ice hits, but rarely does it.Just a tease for you Scott Stevens fans.

One thing I remember about Subban is that he was clutch.

OTOH, he was a really bad at playing the clock. It's his style to try to dangle a player at the end of a tied game with nobody behind him.

I also think there has to be some truth to the rumors that his personality off the ice can be a distraction, beyond any discussion of racism.

Wish you guys good luck, but truth be told I'm glad we got Shea Weber in Montreal in light of how Subban's career and reputation is turning out.But Subban is young enough to get his stuff together and become a Norris contender again.

Good thing for him is he will virtually be out of the spotlight in NJ.

Shero and Hynes should just tell him to play his game. Be himself, nobody in the league will care what he does in NJ like they did in Montreal and to a lesser degree Nashville.

Reminds me a lot of the same issues they said about Hall. Sometimes it helps to acquire a guy who has perceived issues, get to know them better, show some faith in them, and push them to be a better player.

At least we went big on this one and didn't try and take a flyer on Olli Maatta or some cheap reclamation project. This is exactly what we needed.

agreed. and if smith is what we think he will be the team is now injecting 2 new defenseman into the lineup next season... all of a sudden when you look at our defense it starts to look pretty damn respectable on paper.. this team could be dangerous next season..

and how is that?

Well if he was still a Norris contender, would he get traded for a bag of pucks?

The guy is 30 years old, not 37.Doug Harvey won his first of seven Norris trophies at age 30.Defensemen can age like good wine.Everything Scott Stevens did for you guys in the playoffs happened after age 30.

So Subban getting traded for virtually nothing at that age is not exactly reflecting highly on him, is it?
