Say what you want about last nights game but bottom line they are the defending champs with still a pretty decent core of players. A good lesson for the boys need to be a little more disciplined and lets try scoring first and see how that works. I am a little concerned about Servac and Kaleb hope they are not serious. Did anyone see why Kaleb left?

Kaleb skated off on his own in the second period during the half way break. He didn't seem to be favoring anything from what I could tell. He had thrown a massive hit earlier in the period and I don't recall seeing him take a shift after that one. Hopefully nothing to do with the shoulder.

The Attack essentially got taken to school by a veteran team. Hamilton was under Owen Sound's skin and the Attack couldn't contain their emotions. Barlow got goaded into a fight which he should have never been involved with. Fantino made a dumb hit and Sedley got caught on the slew foot(didn't get a good look at it live and haven't seen a replay but assume he likely gets a two game suspension). Uens is as tough as they come and doesn't back down from anyone but I don't love seeing him taking on guys much bigger than he is. The injury situation and likely suspension(s) will have us playing Missy short handed tonight I would imagine.

With the short bench, Rogers got plenty of ice time and did not look out of place. His shot, which his team mates have been raving about, was on display on a late PP where he ripped one high blocker on the goalie. He looks like a player to me. Brennan and Cormier played some second unit PP time late and looked good as well I thought.

Likely 10 forwards and 7 defensemen available tonight. I'm thinking Votary may be in line to get the start.

What a difference a week makes! 1 Goal in 2 games. :baghead: Outshot 43 to 14 :eek3:
2 pretty good lessons to be learned. The boys were taught lessons by 2 pretty decent teams. I was real impressed
by the blanket Missy threw over us they have some decent size and like last year defensively they are very solid. Last years 2nd rd exit at the hands of Hamilton was closer than the 4-0 sweep by the dogs indicates. Sometimes you have to tip your hat to the opposition and say Well Played.

Agree that both of the visiting teams came to play and showed why they are highly rated. Votary played a good game. Attack continue to take bad penalties by vets that should know better. In the Missy game, it seemed liked the Attack were starting it get in going but penalties killed any momentum. Vets need to step up and be good role models. Maybe it is time for DD to get that other OA lined up.

If Lawrence and Petrovsky are out for any length of time then they need to speed up the search for the forward OA they've been coveting. The depth at forward that we started the year with is looking pretty thin all of a sudden.

Votary looked very good in net. Promising start to his season. I thought Uens was about the only other player that stood out in a positive manner. You're bang on about the penalties. This was the team's Achilles heal at the start of last season too. Playing short handed hurts even more when the team is playing with a short bench too.

PP was short again 0/6 on the weekend

Bang on both Stellar 29 and Millpond with your last responses. I will add my two cents/opinion for what it's worth...

Yes we are only four games in so probably no need to panic or overreact but I have some feelings/observations nonetheless. The powerplay is a atrocious to start the year as it was almost all last year. Firing at a dismal 9.1% to start the season, good for third worst and like last year, giving up more short handed chances than we are generating our own. We gave up a 2 on 0 shorthanded breakaway with the five fwds out on pp the other night. They looked lost out there.

I feel a bigger focus for DD over searching for an OA at this point should be putting his coaching staff on notice. The ongoing carryover PP issues are a concern but the lack of discipline is more concerning. There does not appear to be any accountability at all. Stupid penalties after stupid penalties, often at inopportune times and negating our chance to go on the PP ourselves. Like last year, no in game adjustments. I noticed that and mentioned it last year as well. No decisions based on how kids are playing that particular game. Just stubbornness, keep putting the same guys out on PP and in key situations even if they are having a bad game. I know the lines and pairings were mixed up due to being short players but there were times during both games on the weekend that no one knew who was up next. Guys coming from the penalty box to bench and/or normal changes on the fly and nobody knew who should be going. Also a couple times they did not have enough players out for the faceoff. I mentioned we were short and get that injuries happen, but the lack of discipline and selfishness should not factor into that. When an assistant captain is assessed two match penalties this early in the season, that's an issue. Luckily the first one did not result in suspension. The same player played over 3.5 mins of the four min powerplay Saturday night and was bent over gassed for a good portion of it. These are coaching issues that need to be addressed.

Barlow and Uens should not have to be fighting the biggest guys on the other team!

You're right, it's too soon to panic or over react. The PP issues obviously sting with the lack of success we had last season. My biggest concern so far with the PP is they are really struggling to gain the zone on entry. I find once they get possession in the o-zone the power play set up looks ok but they spend most of the time trying to gain the zone or chipping in and failing to recover the puck. Sedley has been the best at zone entry on the PP from my observation and missing him out there definitely hurts the PP. The fact that they rolled a 5 forward PP shows they are at least trying something different. Would be great to not lead the league in short handed goals allowed this season though lol.

With some big pieces out of the line up they need to get Barlow, Goure and Guindon going. They've all been fairly quiet through the first four games. Burroughs has been their best, most consistent forward so far outside of the now injured Lawrence.

This guy has been a thorn in our side. High-energy guy, could score 25 this season .
Our team is better today than it was Saturday .

Niagara is melting........they're melting.
I see him as a middle six type who will chip in with some offense and hopefully be a key contributor on the PK and take some of the tough defensive responsibilities in our zone. He and Bryant would be a tough match up for teams on a checking line or late in a game protecting a lead. I think it will be a nice fit and the cost was very reasonable. Hopefully he can find his way to Sarnia for tomorrow's game.

I'm hearing he will be available in Sarnia .

Certainly a good pick up in Papais. I liked his game when he was with the Storm and should bring a bit more options up front with us.

Interesting little side-note DD goes after another player who was a captain for the Mississauaga Reps AAA in his draft year in 2018 when the Storm selected him 127th overall. Management likes going after those leadership types and Papais fits that bill.

To Date

Goure, Cormier, Guindon, Bryant, Burroughs, Barlow, and Papais were all either captains or assistant captains in their OHL draft years.

Good for those boys for stepping up when nobody else would. I watched the clips online and I think both boys knew they bit a bit more off than they could chew but still carried on.
Your team is a solid group, don't let a slow start dictate the direction of the team for the entire season.
