We had no business winning that game lol
I wouldn't say no business that game could have gone either way at any point. I'm thinking we need to get used to that as most nights in this conf are going to be that way. What an exciting game and this year is going to be exactly the same. If your not 100% on any given night you will get your ass handed to you pretty quick.

Last year you complained Chenard wasn't good enough to win a game on his own, if what your saying is true, then your complaint from last year isn't a complaint anymore :)

For sure. Both sides got lucky bounces, the Rangers on the 3rd goal, the Attack on the 4th. Awful start from the Attack, which id suggest is probably the Rangers coming out hot after a poor night before. After that it was a pretty even game.

Two games in and its hard not to like where the team is. They surely compete and move pucks pretty well. Sawyer seems to be a nice addition, once he gets his feet under him he should be a nice top 4 guy, could even play with Sedley? Uens has improved, Steen has improved and Lawrence is dominating already. Im not sure where this takes us this year, but Itll be a fun ride.

Its early.. but the old saying is usually true.. Good teams often find ways to win even bad games or games that they are not playing their best. Im not saying we are great but were off to a decent start with lots of time to improve. I cant wait to see who DD finds for an OA and how they fit in.

Well I was going to post something how his glove being stinky in the first period but I held off.. the only thing I’ll say is that he is still slow going side to side. I’m enjoying the start though

I'm not going to disagree that side to side is something Nick needs to work on but all I got is if your starting on the goalie criticism already I would suggest going crow hunting and stocking up the freezer you might need a good supply. LOL I'm not saying this as a dick just a little humor.

Re: The overage situation, looking around the league, there aren't many, if any, other contenders with spots open for Overage forwards. The Attack look like they're in really great position to take advantage of one of those situations.

Keeping my eyes firmly fixed on Hamilton. Morrison and Hayes have letters, and Constantini started one of the first two games. Diaco sat out one game but had 3 points in the other. He'd be my pick as the guy to get moved.

Diaco is small but had 70 points last season and while I don't expect Hamilton to sort out their OA too quickly (especially with Gavin White maybe return on the blue line from the pro ranks), it sure would be convenient if he just stayed in Owen Sound Friday night, and drew into the lineup Saturday against MIssissauga.

Great start to the season and I don't mind eating a little crow myself. I was a bit negative on Sawyer after the first game and wrongfully so. He looks like he will be a great addition. I think he and Uens make a good pairing as they are great skaters and get to loose pucks first in our end. Might be a reason to have them separated though as well.

I like your points PensFan101 on the Hamilton OAs. I would like to see DD wait a bit to move on an OA fwd but also don't want him to miss out - seeing Panwar just dealt to the Petes. I just feel that teams may be willing to part with certain OAs as the season progresses and they determine whether they are buying, selling, or staying put. If Hamilton gets off to a terrible start, perhaps Morrison would be available? Here's who I have on my shortlist wish list;

Hamilton - Morrison, Hayes. or Diaco
Oshawa - Butler
Windsor - Maggio

Or what if Owen Sound continues to do well and becomes a contender this year and decide this year is the go for it year as opposed to next year? Who's to say a Shane Wright or Wyatt Johnstone would not be in the mix. Wishful thinking and likely high price tags but there are only so many years that come around when you can contend. Just thinking out loud.

Degray doesn’t make block buster trades to acquire top end talent. And OS is t a place many top end guys want to go, it’s always been a tough spot to get top quality players to want to come to the scenic city. I think next year is the year to go all in, I just won’t trust Votary as our number 1 next year. But that’s just me

I think the only downside to waiting on the overage piece is that the player has less time to gel with the squad, and if a player is only playing half the time because of being the odd man out (like Diaco), it could affect his performance.

I'd be surprised if Hamilton decided to sell their big guns, but if Morrison came onto the market, he's at that level that many more teams would be lining up to swap OA's and throw in a bunch of picks.

Given the lack of market for overage forwards, as there are are players than spots, and Owen Sound is a prime spot for a guy like that, I'd certainly be eager to pull the trigger sooner A) to secure a good player early and B) the price is not likely to be prohibitive.

And I doubt the team is big game hunting. Sawyer and an OA forward will cost net a few prime picks, but provide a ton of value this year. It also won't empty the cupboard.

The market rate on OAs is pretty depressed currently based on the recent transactions. As you stated though, Morrison is the likely exception. A talent like that hits the market and I'm sure there would be a bit of a bidding war, even with teams that already have a full compliment of OA players. Owen Sound is well positioned to strike if they want to make a deal.

Wouldn't be surprised if the final decisions on some players is held up until the status of OHL eligible players has some more certainty with AHL/NHL rosters still being finalized. Would likely push the transaction window out to around October 10th ish. Guelph comes to mind as a decision on Profaca in AHL camp likely could impact their need to add an OA. Johnston in Windsor also likely determines what they want to do in terms of making another run or selling.

DeGray hasn't typically made the big deals but maybe this year could be viewed differently. Dale has said good teams have two good imports and three good OAs. When you look at next year's team, we have a good group of OA candidates and one very good import already in Petrovsky. A lot of the heavy lifting per se for next year's team is basically done. This season could be a year to break from the pattern. Just food for thought.

There are GM's who would make a play to upgrade their OA's with little regard as to what happens to the odd man out.

If he trades for a good OA then one could argue we still only have two good OAs.

Another name that could be possible might be Barries Declan McDonnel he has played 90 games in Kitchener before going to Barrie so he should know what life playing in the midwest division is like… just a thought could be a little cheaper viable option he had 62 points in 63 games last year.

That's fair. There would still be room for improvement in that regard at likely a very reasonable cost based on what is supposedly on the market if they want to upgrade there too. I'm not the biggest fan of his but the team sure seems high on him. I don't expect any changes there.

I like the player and think he would be a fit but I have to imagine if Clarke comes back to Barrie they likely run with three OA forwards.

My thoughts exactly. It's almost like they won't give in to admitting it was a rare miss on a first round pick. If he hasn't developed to where they/he had been hoping for yet, I don't see it happening in year 5. Not eligible to return next year so don't get why they are sitting the young kids and moreover, when will someone on that staff realize he is not a powerplay guy?????

Addition by subtraction at this point.

The decision making is what drives me crazy. For a veteran player he just seems to make too many mistakes. I understand it's junior hockey and those things happen but I wouldn't expect it to occur so regularly with a veteran player. The back passes on the power play are especially scary. In both games he passed back to nobody while leading the play up ice in the neutral zone. Maybe they can swap his power play role with Uens penalty killing duties. Might be a better fit.

Well we didn't have our best game this season tonight, but I wouldn't say we had the worst either.

Simply the Bulldogs wanted it more and they showed up to play, and played a good road game against us they took our time and space away, and capitalized on their chances.

Time to forget the mistakes of tonight and hit the reset button for tomorrow against Missy.
