Sawyer underachieved last season in Ottawa. He just didn’t seem “right.” I expect him to play top 4 minutes and contribute offensively. I’d be surprised if he didn’t tally upwards of 40 points. He can move the puck and he has a bit of a nasty streak. He doesn’t play hard nosed but he does have that mean streak in him that comes out and when it does, it sort of takes you by surprise. It’s like, “what just happened?”

I like him a lot. The 67’s had an over abundance of D-Men capable at the OHL Level, especially on the Left Side. Although it hurts losing Sawyer, it opens a spot for one of the younger guys to step in.

All in all, I think you will all like Sawyer. A very hard player to dislike. He won’t jump out at you but he is solid and consistent.

Thx.
The Attack has/had a youngish blue line.
This adds a solid veteran presence, which will be required in the Midwest, facing London, Guelph and Kitchener this season .
Things just got a little more interesting ...

Really jumbles up the D picture. What's the top 6 now? My best guess:

Sedley - Scweingruber
Seed - Sawyer
Uens - Steen

Extras - Jordan and Rogers

When Uens and Steen are 3rd pair, you've got a solid blueline . And Two great extras.

Haha. Looking forward to watching him grow and mature this season .

Hes still a kid, with tremendous ceiling .

We've never had a 17 yr old captain.

In another first, this version of the Attack begins the season Friday with a full roster of strictly Attack draft picks.
Well this didn't age well. Maybe next year.

Looked back at the OHL draft show of Sawyer's draft year when selected by the 67's "Teddy is another one of those steady puck moving defensemen" Darrell Woodley stated.

Thanks for the insight but this is definitely a head scratcher for me. Giving up a 2nd and a 3rd for a 19 year old player with those stats, and fair to say he won't be around for his overage year next year with the four we will already have returning. Those draft picks are similar to what we got in return for Perrott and better than what we got for Guzda??? Owen Sound also has/had an abundance of D men capable at OHL level. My only guess is that something else is in the works.

I also don't see him stepping in and being an automatic top four as soon as he suits up.. Hopefully he ends up being that good, but was it even guaranteed that he was going to be in Ottawa's line up every night? I'm assuming he won't dress tonight or until he gets a few practices in. When he does suit up I'm kind of in agreement with Stellar29 and Millpond in terms of the top six but see it tweaked just a bit for pairings due to left and right shots.

Seed - Sedley
Schweingruber - Uens
Sawyer - Steen (potential shut down/pk)

Jordan - Sedley

Excited to watch them get at it tonight,

Excluding the import, I think it's far from guaranteed that all four of your other '03s are back for an OA year next year. Lawrence and Goure could very well be gone pro if they have a good year. Even if they are all back and he turns into a 1 year rental, you can likely recoup most of that cost trading him in the preseason. In the meantime, you have significantly bolstered your defense for this season. Let the fun begin.

Well he's going to learn quickly about plying the Owen Sound way or he will find himself in the stands. Solid win tonight but on the last two goals against - new kid totally bailed on attempting to block the shot. It was more than obvious on both occasions.

i would be pretty shocked if he actually bailed on blocking a shot based on what the ottawa boys say about him.

OK Video doesn't lie

the first one it looks like he went down to block it and missed it, the second one went by his shoulder and he tried to knock it with his hand? should he have put his head in front of that one?

if what you are saying is true, then he will be a healthy next game, proof will be in the pudding as they say.

Well if there was any way you want to start a season off on the road tonight was about as textbook as you can make it.

A bend but don't break type game. From what I heard, from Mark McKelvie the boys took a bit to get their feet moving to start the game but once they got going they turn on the offense and tightened up defensively. Anytime you can limit the Knights to a single shot in the middle stanza of a game is a good night to have.

All in all a tidy win and a the right footing to start a season with a 5-3 W.

Onward to the home opener and the Rangers tomorrow.

Is there anything sweeter then a HUGE victory in London to start the regular season? I cant really think of one.. Sounds like the boys played a great second period of hockey holding the Knights to a single shot. Ill cut Sawyer some slack being his first game after the trade Im sure he can clean things up a bit moving forward and settle in. DD has a pretty good eye for players and Im sure he knows a thing or two that we don't about Sawyer. All in all great first game and first win. On to the home opener! The next one wont be any easier with a strong Rangers team coming to town

Well the team is one week down in the season, and from what I've seen this is the makings of something exciting this season.

In both games, the team had a bend but don't break mindset, the middle frames are a bit work in progress moving forward but that is typical of junior hockey no team plays every frame picture perfect in any game.

At the end of the day when it counted they buckled down and took away dangerous offensive chances from both Knights and Rangers.

Now time for a reset and work on the finer details before Friday and Saturday when the Bulldogs and Steelheads come to town.
