He was an interesting prospect back in the day with Minnesota, big guy LHD who is a decent skater. But his potential never materialized. He's better than de Haan but definitely not better than Jones imo. Jones ability to move the puck quick is huge, don't know why NYR hate him so much. Not one to gripe about 3rds, but that was going to be the top 3rd round pick.
Jones is better but not sure jones isn't the one who is in street clothes this weekend

To me Soucy makes the most sense if you're thinking the Rangers are making the playoffs. Fox comes back and you have 7 other defensemen you can play......that is if you don't move another defenseman.

From the beginning of the season the Rangers have remade their defense. Fox, Miller, Schneider, Jones aer still here but Trouba, Lindgren and Mancini have moved along to be replaced by Borgen, Vaakanainen, de Haan and now Soucy. These replacements are pretty much defensive types. As long as they can move the puck adequately having steadier guys back on D should help out the goalies.

Borgen was crap for the Kraken too, here we are.

So the Rangers like crappy defense from other teams because the Rangers hate dman with talent and hate developing young talent like Zac Jones.

This guy stinks so yeah tracks they would trade for him

No offense to speak of, can’t have more than one guy on defense who can score

This just proves the Rangers cant even evaluate NHL talent like they cant evaluate young talent. This organization sucks at scouting

It's only a 3rd in a shallow draft so whatever, but I don't get the reasoning behind this trade.
Dom Moore was a 3rd round pick.

He's worth a shot. Maybe he can rebound next season and have a good year and actually help the team. I still hope Drury can pull off a trade for a legit, top pair LHD to play with Fox but that might have to wait for the offseason.

You need to draft those sadly.

Would prefer to have kept the pick, but I understand the need to add sandpaper to the team. Borgen has surpassed expectations and I hope Soucy will do the same. I also like the fact that JT recruited him. That means he must be a gamer.

I likewise did not understand this trade and was like, "Why even do this?"

But I also read what you alluded to, that JT Miller spoke with Soucy directly and convinced Soucy to waive his NTC to come to NY. Miller was on the ice and in the locker room with the guy. I'm some moron that has not seen enough Vancouver games the past few seasons to truly know what's what here. So, I have to strongly defer to Miller and management on this.

On the plus side, Soucy's NTC moves to a 12-team limit next season, we have a lot of cap room where there is little real risk bringing this dude in to test combinations and see if anything stands out.

Best case, he works out. Worst case, we move him down the line.

Not me, I read!

I warned up to Borgen because he filled an immediate hole. I was good with Vaakanainen because he filled an immediate hole. I was good with de Haan because he filled an immediate hole.

Now there's another one. We're collecting these guys. Soucy, CDH, Jones, Vaakanainen, Borgen, and honestly Schneider are probably all bottom pairing defensemen.

And right now, I just don't believe that they're collecting a fistful of bottom pair defensemen to compete for one spot on the bottom pair.

The logic dictates that some of these guys are getting crowbarred into the top 4 next year. I think that fear is understandable. Playing defensemen too much is a Rangers tradition like blue jerseys are a Rangers tradition.
It’s possible that Drury has already determined that he is not paying Key Miller 6 million per after this year and Saucy is an insurance policy.

here's my thing. It's not against Soucy the player or guy. But he was made expendable not only by the acquisition of Marcus P from Pittsburgh but also by the emergence of Elias Pettersson the Dman - a smooth skating, big, competitive 21 year old 3rd round pick. He's been a revelation as a shutdown piece.

THATS the guy I want. not the 30yo retread. the hungry and rangy 22yo that we drafted.

i guess the idea is fortescue/emery are those guys, but having more of them is why i hate trading all our 2nds and 3rds.

We have our 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 2 4ths. We'll be ok. When Soucy's contract is up Fortescue will replace him.

The defense has been much better of late. They actually seem to be fairly structurally sound. Last night's 3rd period was just running out of gas against a physical quality team. They gave up 2 goals in regulation.

Last 10 games 2.6 ga and that's with the stinker in Buf. Take that out and for those last 9 games, it's 2 ga per game.

The D is a work in progress. Removing Lindgren has been addition by subtraction. Fox is hurt. Adding the new faces has changed the dynamic of this defense. New partners and new faces tend to freshen things. This defense appears to be gelling.

Drury has done as good a job as he could do to this point. He can always flip some of these guus and recoup picks. Trying to make the playoffs as buyers while not selling the farm is a tough test. He's trying to find value and a legit contributor. Not easy.

The team is showing life.
The bolded is what came to mind when I saw these deals....Drury has basically "purchased" a bunch of lotto tickets -- if one or two plug immediate wholes (as some have indicated), then he's already had success. However, the real bounty comes deadline day. If I recall correctly, in the past, d-men went for insane prices on TDL.
