It wasnt his team. he gets blamed for many of the problems but Gorton acquired and drafted many of the players on last year's team. Only now after all these trades do we have a clearer vision of Drury's plan.
I'm still not 100% on what Drury's plan is aside from becoming more disagreeable to play against.

He's had good years in the past but I know what this means
Bye Jones
Bullshit
Seriously would like to know, what did Jones do to Lavy or CD? Hoist a clam into their Clam Chowder soup? He's been a good teammate, kept his mouth shut for MUCH longer than one could expect. Kid needs PT, shouldn't be riding the bench in what should be very progressive years, especially being on a team desperate for puck moving dmen.

Yeah, I get it, he's smallish. At this point I'd trade Fox and get some good stuff in return. His VALUE is mountains above Zac's. Sorry Foxy, not turning me on lately, and the 4 nations cup showed exactly what a TOP league dman should look like.

Miller-Fox
Soucy-Borgen
Vaakanainen-Schneider
Jones-de Haan

Fox, Miller and Schneider have never been put in better positions to succeed and reach their potential. This anger is misplaced when you consider the minimal cost and compare it to where we were with our "President's Trophy caliber" defense last year. All 8 of those players are significantly upgrades over what we were getting out of Trouba, Lindgren and our 3rd pair (sans some solid play from Gus and Mikkola) over the last 3 seasons.

And besides, if Im wrong and they do play him with Fox, why dont we give it a second before we decide its the end of the world. Lindgren and Fox were elite to start their careers until the issue became that Lindgren was being overmatched physically on every shift, and guys are taking runs ate Fox because there's no one there to protect him, The thing people hate to admit about the whole Beukeboom/Leetch meme is that it worked.

Leetch-Beukeboom worked 30 years ago. Zero offense oaf defensemen don't belong in a top 4 in most cases. If they're there, they better be f***ing elite at defense.

I don't even really have a problem with Soucy if this is truly just a f***ed up year for him. It's the failure to really address where this defense has issues. We still won't be able to transition out of our own end (he doesn't help us there) and okay maybe we win an extra board battle or two but that is meaningless if you cough up the puck right after.

Borgen at his best definitely helps a bit as he can push pucks up ice well enough. Not ideal, but good enough. Honestly, so did Trouba (his issues were the massive gaps and over aggressiveness so Borgen is an improvement over JT in those areas too.)

Soucy at his best is just a bigger more menacing version of Lindgren at his best. I know some people will think thats a good thing but Lindgren was miscast next to Fox even when he was good and it didn't have anything to do with him being too small. He was too shit at offense/moving pucks out of the DZ. Fox has always carried that load for him.

This is going to likely go one of 2 ways.

Miller-Fox becomes a thing and they're good or maybe even great.... But Soucy-Borgen also becomes a thing and is overused by Lavi and they can't compliment each other well enough to justify their existence.

Or he gets welded next to Fox (most likely) and even if there is some bounce back, it's not likely to be enough to play him in that role in any way where he's going to be a net positive.

Drury tried to buy low on a guy having a down year in a shit situation but hasn't done anything to improve the defense in the areas where they need it the most. Out side of Gustafsson, he hasn't even attempted a single move to address this for his defense.

Worst case scenario is his game has truly fallen of a cliff and we're right back to where we were at the beginning of the season with a bigger, slightly less expensive version of the guy we just shipped to Colorado.

Dom Moore was a 3rd round pick.

You need to draft those sadly.
You guys might have saw the stat on the draft today ...after the first 2 rounds of the drafts the highest number of guys that played one game in the NHL this season were of guys NOT drafted. . There likely is a link on that somewhere ...I watched it on TSN or the other guys Sportsnet . It was an interesting stat . I mentioned the other day that after 2-3 rounds of the draft they may as well open it up to bidders for the rest .

It's better for the GM to say the player might fit in various ways than imply they fit with one partner or on one pair. Given he's pretty cheap, there's no reason to tether him to anyone until you see what works and what doesn't. Reasonable.

The actual illuminating part of that quote is the implication he might even play on the right instead of playing with Fox, Schneider or Borgen. Because what could that mean?
