Marc Dumont was certainly high enough on Beck other day. Couple days ago on 690 he said Beck reminded him of Danault at his peak.

do you guys think he gets a chance at Team Canada this winter ( bottom 6 center ) if he keeps improving hes a good 2 way C thats really good on faceoffs im pretty sure he'll get invited to the camp atleast

Johnson makes the NHL
McTavish not really sure dont follow the Ducks
Wright i think gets send back to juniors so will make Team Canada
Bedard does he go back on the wing or do they put him at C
Fantilli should make the team
Yager i think they will play him on the wing

am i missing someone else they would take over Beck?
I think he's a LOCK personally lol
But I'm jumping the gun a bit

I get Mike Fisher vibes with this kid, great in the dot and solid at both ends of the ice.
f***in love Mike Fisher
Would take it in a heartbeat

That's who I compared him when we draft him
I’m submitting your candidacy to join Montreal Hockey Now.

You have a knack for getting things right and your judgment is sound.

Also, while you’re there, we’d need you to find out who their “highly-placed NHL executive” source is and if he even exists. :sarcasm:

No thanks !

I would be curious to see who is there "source" though

I'm pretty sure Owen Beck will make Team Canada. He will play a lot, too.

You don't get a kid like Owen Beck in your camp and not want to have him there.
It won't be easy to make the team.

I think these 11 forwards are a lock or close to a lock to make the team: Bedard, Roy, Kidney, Stankoven, Gaucher, Ostapchuk, Othmann, Guenther, Savoie, Johnston, Bolduc. It doesn't include Wright and McTavish who I think will be in the nhl.

So only 3 spots left. Beck will be competing with Geekie, Dach, Firkus, Fantili, l'heureux, Robertson, etc.

Beck is great on faceoffs and a strong 2-way player, which should increase his chance of getting a job in the bottom 6 or as an extra.

A lot of the guys you mentioned are playing in offensive roles or won't be there altogether.

There's a lot of guys you mentioned with good upside but Beck being able to be that all situations player that coaches love, he'll find a role and he'll play a lot. I wouldn't be surprised if he forms a trio with L'Heureux.

Frankly....not sure how Kidney is a lock....

He reminds me of Nick Suzuki.. on the way he thinks the game and the way he talks too lol.

I really liked what i saw.. I didnt see a guy with no skills... I saw someone really crafty and well positioned with pretty good shot too.well see.. 100% more offense than Phillip D. Sorry.

Also being a beast in the faceoff dot.. he has a place waiting for him not too far from now.. he vould be a darkhorse NHL player this year maybe not with the habs... but you get my vibe.

I would't say that Beck have 100 % more offence then a 50 pts C in the NHL though even If I really like him

Definitely. He is the kind of players I really like to see : good IQ, very good 2way game, i.e. willingness to do the defensive work. Not the most flashy but definitely top 6 potential. To be honest, I feel like Beck is a very good deal at the end of the 1st round. Was really surprised Schaefer, Lamoureux, Rinzel, Pickering, Snuggerud went before Beck.
I don’t like to see any prospect get rushed however, Beck’s game already looks so polished and complete at his young age.

He’s a high IQ guy that a coach can rely upon in any situation and looks to be someone who can be deployed when the game is on the line.

How long before he leaps past some of our other high ranking prospects? Plus, wondering how far he might be able to take his offensive game.

The issue is that he can't play AHL anyways so he likely has the two next seasons in the OHL most likely, like Suzuki did.

Regarding his offense I think of him as a very good complementary piece, but not as the one driving the line. The comparison with Danault makes sense right now. Let us hope he turns into a Danault or even better a Bergeron but there is no rush anyways.

Don't know about the others, but if I'm a GM/coach and I have the choice between Kidney and Beck, I choose Beck all the way.

I only meant Beck as a comparable to our other prospects and his possible ascension in future Habs prospects rankings. By all means let him continue honing his craft in the OHL but it sure is going to be nice to see how he evolves.

Yes but most of the players that played before him are not back with the team
As stated thoug, those are the players that should be there too.

Bedard, Roy, Stankoven, Gaucher, Ostapchuk, Othmann, Guenther, Savoie, Johnston, Bolduc. Then, Wright could be there. I think that every single one of those players come with a better recommendation and usage than Kidney. I'm not a fan...but even Geekie...Outside guys like Reid Schaefer or Firkus, or Beck can come into play. Easily.

And that's coming from me. Who advocated to see Kidney play more last WJC. Just saying, based on what they did with him, I don't see him as a shoe-in.
Kidney would have to shit on the coaching staff to not get back as a returning player. I don't think I've seen it happen.
Really not sure if I remember somebody who played so little minutes as Kidney did.
