Team Canada didn't select Slafkovsky and he went 1st overall, it's only one of their many mistakes.

Wait your telling the whole tournament is based on players' birthplace? Why would Team Canada select a slovakian player ?
My friend, are you well?Wait your telling the whole tournament is based on players' birthplace?
I don't know what his future holds but from the quick glimpses from rookie camp through now he has been one impressive young player.
I hope he gets a look for the World Junior Camp in December.
Kidney looks like a full fledged jabroni compared to Beck. Proof that stats aren't everything.personally i take Beck over Kidney anyday
Anyone here know how Trades in the CHL happen and how they work? It would be nice if somehow Beck could get away from Beluz and the Steelheads.
Its easier to score in the Q than in the OHL too.Kidney looks like a full fledged jabroni compared to Beck. Proof that stats aren't everything.
Maybe it’s different in the OHL I’m not 100 % sure, but in the Q there is period in the year where QMJHL can make trade (except for 20 yrs old player). It’s between around December 20 and around January 5th (When the CÉGEP session are finish that’s why I’m not sure if it’s like that in the O)About the only way it could happen here is if Montreal keeps Beck up for the 9 games and while they are keeping him up, they tell Mississauga to trade Beck to another team otherwise they are keeping him in the NHL.. and they could either do it or call their bluff.
You mostly see it for 19 year olds since if the team isn't competing, they'll trade them around WJC season for a big haul of draft picks and 15/16 year olds.
So the Steelheads aren't gonna be compelled to trade Beck unless they don't plan on competing the next 2 seasons, I think they do.

So will Team Canada.personally i take Beck over Kidney anyday
I'd have to check the stats again, but he GPG is higher in the OHL than the Q and the W for the last few seasons. So I'd argue it's easier to score in the OHL, although the talent pool is overall lower in the Q.Its easier to score in the Q than in the OHL too.

I would forget the statistics. Rely on the eye test: Kidney has largely been invisible this training camp while Beck has been a force in all three zones. Doesn’t preclude Kidney from developing into superior player, but right now, it’s not even close.I'd have to check the stats again, but he GPG is higher in the OHL than the Q and the W for the last few seasons. I mean, yes Beck is better right now and will probably be a better player in the futur but it’s kinda hard to stand out when you play on the 4th line with Guindon and Bourque in the Rouge contre Blanc match up.I would forget the statistics. Kidney reminds me of Ben Maxwell, a prospect who, a long time ago, was great in juniors and known for his hockey IQ and playmaking, but never made it because he never got strong and fast enough.I would forget the statistics. Yeah, it wasn't the only reason Maxwell failed, but I think it played a big role. Anyway, I'm hopeful Kidney will develop and improve in those aspects. I'm skeptical right now, but that doesn't mean I wrote him off or making definitive statements on his development curve. He still has lots of time, so we'll see where it goes from here. But...It wasn't so much that, although it played a part.. Ben Maxwell had no inside game to speak of. Kidney shows more promise in that regard, he will get to the middle when necessary and can make plays in tight and through traffic.
I think people need to understand that Kidney is a different project than someone like Beck. Beck has a lot of physical traits that make it easier for him to stand-out right now. Kidney has work to do physically and on his skating.
So expect that Kidney is going to be someone who spends a couple years in the AHL.

Back to Owen Beck. One heck of a player! If he can improve his shot accuracy, he'll reach another level offensively.
Id borrow the old way of evaluating prospects that HF used to do. Kidney if he makes it needs to be top 6 to be effective he's likely a 7D as it's unlikely he gets there. Whereas Beck is more likely to be a middle 6er but is more likely to get there and is like a 6.5 B.I would forget the statistics.
