I mean, yes Beck is better right now and will probably be a better player in the futur but it’s kinda hard to stand out when you play on the 4th line with Guindon and Bourque in the Rouge contre Blanc match up.
Perhaps. But superior players make their lesser wingers better. Its not the other way around.

Kidney looks like a full fledged jabroni compared to Beck. Proof that stats aren't everything.

Kidney needs to bulk up and also improve skating if he wants to have top 6F potential in the NHL. Lots of like with Kidney's game but we are talking Q standards. He has a ways to go yet in development IMO. Don't hate Kidney but I know his type of game and what he needs to work at if he becomes a impactful NHL player.

Beck has more to value IMO.... in terms of being a potential NHL impactful forward. He's off to a better development track vs Kidney as well. Kidney struggled big time in last year's rookie camp.

Elite prospects weight/height at the moment. Not sure if it's changed but this is how it looks.

5'-11", 190lbs (age 18)
vs
5'-11", 168lbs (age 19)

Its easier to score in the Q than in the OHL too.

Wrong, go look at the amount of goals scored per game. OHL has been scoring more goals the past 10 years or so.

I would forget the statistics. Rely on the eye test: Kidney has largely been invisible this training camp while Beck has been a force in all three zones. Doesn’t preclude Kidney from developing into superior player, but right now, it’s not even close.

Kidney with proper strength will be a different player. But it's nice to have two centers with actual NHL potential. Who knows who will become the better player, the good thing is that the team has plenty of years ahead to let them develop properly.

My initial thoughts were that Beck projected as a 3rd line C. But now, I’m wondering if his ceiling is not that of a top 6, plus his insane ability to dominate at faceoffs can make him indispensable at critical game junctures.

Let’s see how his play stacks up against NHL competition.

I haven't given up on Kidney. He just might be a longer term project. 1 more year in the Q and then 2 to 4 years in the AHL. Or, he might be another Ben Maxwell.

Was looking for the stats, was there anyone tracking how he did at faceoffs during scrimmage?

Imagine anyone giving up on a 19 year old who just had 100 pts in the Q and made the WJC team.

Exactly......All of the bed wetting over inter squad scrimmages is telling of the average hockey IQ on this board.

I like Kidney for where we drafted him but remain realistic in my expectations. We know nothing more about any of these prospects than before camp as they are all pretty much what they were at the end of the season.

His floor is 3C. It will fall on him and the development team to develop his ceiling.

The issue is that he can't play AHL anyways so he likely has the two next seasons in the OHL most likely, like Suzuki did.

Regarding his offense I think of him as a very good complementary piece, but not as the one driving the line. The comparison with Danault makes sense right now. Let us hope he turns into a Danault or even better a Bergeron but there is no rush anyways.
No rush because we need that 2nd line (or better 1st line) Center in place before Beck joins the team -- so it's clear his role is a shutdown, 3rd line C role -- whether that is Ùdach confirmed as a top-6 C, or some 2023 selection at the draft.

I'll still project him as 3C after all the disappointments I went through with previous prospects
But what do I know? Point was projected to be a 3C at some point

No I didn't compare him to Point... I didn't

on se calme :sarcasm:

What’s a good best case scenario for Beck? I’m not a prospect guy but would love a ROR type after this team being so weak down the middle for so long.
I personally see lots of Bo Horvat in him. so id say he would be Becks Ceiling.

I mean just look at this Horvat quote from a scout in 2014. A complete two-way center who excels in his own end; first and foremost he is a competitor. Horvat always plays like there are 5 seconds left, and doesn't take a shift off. He plays to win, not for himself, but for the team. He is dependable in any situation and is exceptional in the face-off circle. Can finish chances as well as create them.

Sounds pretty Beck-ish to me.

Highest drafted defensemen in the past 15 years are Samuel Morin 11th OV in 2013, Noah Dobson 12th OV in 2018 and Jakub Zboril 13th OV in 2015. Morin busted, Zboril is an import that busted as well and Dobson is not even a Quebecer. The OHL produces alot more talents and future NHLers, the league has a better depth of fowards and defensemen year after year. The top Q teams can play with the best OHL teams as we saw at the Memorial cup in the last couple of years, but overall, the middle teams are better in the OHL from my viewings.

Outside of Dobson and Chabot, I think Letang and Vlasic are the last good ones the Q produced, so obviously, there is a problem.

On JiC, pundits drawing a parallel with how Patrice Bergeron, a 2nd round pick, showed up at camp and was never sent back down again.

They were careful to say that Beck isn’t Bergeron but I don’t see how he can possibly force the Habs’ hands — he needs that development time but man that high IQ and situational awareness are so intriguing.

Another caveat to the Bergeron situation in 2003 was the Bruins were a competitive team with a LOT of seasoned veterans, a perfect situation for the potential Bergerons of the world to flourish. (Fortunately, of course, those seasoned veterans had no match for the Habs’ robust collection of studs that spring.)
