Here
I wouldnt be surprised if Beck play a couple of exhibition games with the Habs and gets a longer look than most recently drafted prospects do. Usually, team cuts their CHL players soon, unless they are 1st rounders, but in this case, I think he could force management's hands to keep him longer.
Yeah, he might get the “you impressed the f out of us” freebee pre season game.

He looks like an NHL product, like a custom made coaching dream. You know Carbo was right when he said he’d take 21 Begin’s to fill his roster . Good thing for us, Beck has a better offensive game to his name.

In the draft video, you hear the scouts talk about Beck as a possible pick at 26. They obviously ended up having Mesar ahead on their list. But I bet they were thrilled seeing Beck not taken by anyone else in the 1st.

I didn't know that.

Also, according to Bettman, it's Mzarek, not Mrazek. That's how he pronounced his name 2-3 times when he announced the trade.

🤣

Interesting that we came away from the draft with 4 players that many had going in the 1st round: Slaf, Mezar, Beck, and Hutson.

I guess that's what happens when you have 2 1sts, the next pick right after the 1st round, and it's not unusual for an undersized player to fall. Still, pretty cool I think.

With the way he’s racking up points, winning face offs and playing defence, they weren’t joking when they said he was version of Wright.

Been super impressed with him so far. More than I’d thought or hoped for so far.
If the best part about drafting Wright/trading for Dach is that we needed them to be 2C's instead of 1C
The best part about drafting Beck is hopefully we just need a great 3C, wont be bombarded with top 6 C pressure

(Also Wont be given 1C for 3 years and not want to relinquish it either, was that a shot at Danault? MAYBE, but the feud is over dont worry lol)

100%
That Habs scout who said "honestly I'd pound my fist on the table all day for Beck at 26" is going to be getting a little bonus methinks lol

You're spewing nonsense.
Not really, your posts are as clear as mud. … This is going too far for a simple, idiotic argument.
I hope you enjoyed writing that because I ain't reading it. I'm done trying to explain what I was saying.

I forget where I saw it.. either on the Leafs board or in an article somewhere.

Leafs were really high on Beck.. chances are if they didn't have the Mrazek deal on the table, they would have taken him. They were high on Ohgren as well, I believe.

From what I recall reading after the draft the player the Leafs wanted @ 25 was picked before they could pick (Ohgren as been the speculated player here).

Since the player they wanted was gone they then did the Mrazek trade with the Hawks to move down to 38th from 25th because they felt they could still get a guy they had rated in their top 15 @ 38th but I never read any names at the time on possibly who that player was so it could've very well been Beck. Maybe there was more info about who the player they were targeting at 38th posted later and I never saw it.

You're spewing nonsense. Which is why you're responding with one-sentenced arguments. Elaborate on your supposed point or just accept that it makes zero sense to compare the contractual situations of a 33rd overall pick versus that of an undrafted free agent.
The two players are totally similar, virtually identical !! Both played in Ontario.

Also, if you combine their height with their respective skills, the result is very, very similar at above average, say 79.

Our future #3, or even #2 centerman.

Yes. His tools are too good to don't become at least a 3rd line C. With his offensive talent, 2C potential is there for him. Bo Horvat comparison is truly accurate.... he got great speed, offensive instinct like Horvat. Big big fan of Owen Beck and I think it's a steal by Habs. On some mock draft/rankings he is in top 20.

FWIW, just heard TVA’s Mapper on JiC’s show say that he had an interesting conversation with a scout in attendance at the rookie tournament, about Owen Beck.

The scout told him that Beck reminded him of Patrice Bergeron when Bergeron was in juniors. Not that Beck will become Bergeron but that there are notable similarities between the two in juniors.

Quickly turning into a early 2nd round hit like Romanov was. Lots to like so far with Beck!
Definitely. He is the kind of players I really like to see : good IQ, very good 2way game, i.e. willingness to do the defensive work. Not the most flashy but definitely top 6 potential. To be honest, I feel like Beck is a very good deal at the end of the 1st round. Was really surprised Schaefer, Lamoureux, Rinzel, Pickering, Snuggerud went before Beck.

was abit shocked when we picked him but im loving the pick so far
A lot of our posters were puzzled at the pick. HuGo knew something but it was also their job to know and their due diligence may earn them a home run — this pick is becoming extremely intriguing.

Of course, more development time ahead but so great to have on board what looks like someone who can become a complete player and potentially have 2nd line upside.

I see beck as a potential 2nd line C with legitimate, counter-attacking, offensive potential, if Montreal moves away from the traditional line structure of lines One and Two being more offensive lines, line Three being a checking line and line FOUR being primarily an energy line with little offensive upside.

1) Suzuki pivoting a two-way, but more offensive line.

2) Beck pivoting a two-way line able to shut down some of the opponents' best players, but having offensive upside nonetheless.

3) Fantilli/Dvorak (or some other c available in the top-10 for 2023) pivoting an offensive line in an exploitation role against weaker opposition.

4) Evans or some other veteran C pivoting a shutdown line with complementary scoring.

Ideally, Dach gets built up again and is traded for quality help on RD down the line when we are ready to challenge for a Cup again.

That, or Dach finally breaks out and plays the offensive, 3rd line role while we pick solid wingers at the 2023 draft with our 1st round picks. 2nd round picks and beyond can target Ds and Gs.

The 2024 draft will target more Ds as early s the first round because it boasts more talent at that position.

King Of The North
do you guys think he gets a chance at Team Canada this winter ( bottom 6 center ) if he keeps improving hes a good 2 way C thats really good on faceoffs im pretty sure he'll get invited to the camp atleast

Johnson makes the NHL
McTavish not really sure dont follow the Ducks
Wright i think gets send back to juniors so will make Team Canada
Bedard does he go back on the wing or do they put him at C
Fantilli should make the team
Yager i think they will play him on the wing

am i missing someone else they would take over Beck?
