A lot of our posters were puzzled at the pick. HuGo knew something but it was also their job to know and their due diligence may earn them a home run — this pick is becoming extremely intriguing.
Of course, more development time ahead but so great to have on board what looks like someone who can become a complete player and potentially have 2nd line upside.
I see beck as a potential 2nd line C with legitimate, counter-attacking, offensive potential, if Montreal moves away from the traditional line structure of lines One and Two being more offensive lines, line Three being a checking line and line FOUR being primarily an energy line with little offensive upside.
1) Suzuki pivoting a two-way, but more offensive line.
2) Beck pivoting a two-way line able to shut down some of the opponents' best players, but having offensive upside nonetheless.
3) Fantilli/Dvorak (or some other c available in the top-10 for 2023) pivoting an offensive line in an exploitation role against weaker opposition.
4) Evans or some other veteran C pivoting a shutdown line with complementary scoring.
Ideally, Dach gets built up again and is traded for quality help on RD down the line when we are ready to challenge for a Cup again.
That, or Dach finally breaks out and plays the offensive, 3rd line role while we pick solid wingers at the 2023 draft with our 1st round picks. 2nd round picks and beyond can target Ds and Gs.
The 2024 draft will target more Ds as early s the first round because it boasts more talent at that position.
