If he didn't bet on NHL games they have no legitimate reason to suspend him. The rule specifically states that betting on any other sport is OK.

Ah yes, the NHL, the league where aggravated assault will get you a 4 games suspension at most (One if it's in the playoffs, because reasons) but using the Bet99 app get you a half season suspension.

He didn't bet on NHL games. If he had, he would have been banned and not suspended.

Suspend a player for gambling while half your ads are about sports betting sites.

My guess is they found evidence he gambled illegally. Because if he gambled on other sports through legal means, then I don't know why they'd suspend him, especially if they found no evidence he bet on NHL games.
