I had said I wanted Tkachuk and I was told I was a f***ing idiot because Tkachuk had a low ceiling and no elite skills.

2018 : "Nepotism, he's only ranked high because of his last name. NHL scouts are so dumb."

True. Nobody wanted Tkachuk. Everyone said it was the safe vanilla low ceiling pick. Most wanted Zadina indeed.
Pierre McGuire was pleading for Tkachuk. As late as the night before on 690. Said it would be a generational error for them to take KK. People made fun of him for it. Oh, how he was right.

I did not have any preferences between KK and Tkatchuk but I remember asking myself why everyone was against picking up Tkatchuk and I also remember people making fun of whoever would pick him.

He would fit marvelously on a line with Suzuki and Caufield.

nope.
like 3 people here did.
90% wanted Zadina (including me - but would have been ok with Ketchup or KK)
I don't get this all people wanted Zadina.

That's not what i recall at all. Maybe my brain is playing tricks with me but i recall it was very divided. Personally i wanted Quinton Hughes but since he was a reach at this rank i did not expect us to draft him. I was fine with Drafting BT Since he was without any shed of a doubt the most NHL ready prospect in the top 10 and we were trying to win. I was against Zadina. I'm a Rempart fan and i had seen enough of him to not want him. Between JK and BT my choice was easily BT.

Does it really matter that the fans, who have an imperfect view at best, wanted the prosect that was highest ranked in the consensus?

So the consensus was wrong -- so what's the point exactly?

The point wasn’t about right/wrong but just to correct the narrative that everyone wanted Tkachuk. Many of us were wrong, myself included, but fact is most people didn’t want Tkachuk.

It obviously doesn’t matter now as what’s done is done.

Guess Tarasenko reluctantly went to Canes - strange fires his agent after signing deal

We almost had this turd, he was ranked high on so many lists, the scouts are mostly hot garbage we have learned over the years. NEVER FORGET scouts are SUS

I was not super high or low on him pre draft. One area that concerned me was how he faded in the Mooseheads playoffs when his center O Somppi got injured. He really was his center rock to rely on. Yeah, he had 12 pts with 5 goals in 9 playoff games but he wasn't driving play against the other teams best players. Points evaluation vs eye test.

Zadina skating is not good enough and he really doesn't create time and space for himself. He relies on others to create that for him and he slides into open spaces. Decent offensive and shot but it's very limited after that.

I am surprised at how much he has struggled though. Seems to want top 6 minutes but without earning it

It was:

53% Zadina
20% KK
9% Hughes

So clearly not 90%, but the majority for sure. And that's only hfboard, the medias were pushing Zedina, might be wrong tho.

Also if you wanted QH and thought we would pick BT, why did you vote Joel Farabee :sarcasm:

Now, while you're at it, you can simply delete the Michkov bookmarks, because he has 100x Zadina's talent. It's a lame 1= 1 comparison. I had good reasons to think Zadina would flop. If teams passed on Michkov, it's not necause they thought he'd flop and more has to do with lockerroom dynamics, his character and that Russian thing.

I highly doubt he will bust.

I also did not spot your name in the votes. It's one thing to call back people on their votes when you picked the right one(s), but it's another thing altogether when you don't wet yourself and then do the same.

My main point was about saying that most wanted Tkachuk which is still facts.
Good for you on not liking Zadina. and the comparison with Michkov isn't about talent it is about drafting a player and there is a lot more to drafting than talent alone.

Hit me up in 3-5 years.

I don't get this all people wanted Zadina.

Maybe some wanted Hughes, true but my point was about people wanting Tkachuk here...the VAST majority did not and even made fun of the idea.

Hughes didn't grab him on waivers because of this...Imagine all the chances he would have to score on our net if he played with us??!!

Red Wings expected to put Filip Zadina on waivers to terminate his contract:

If he clears waivers, he could sign anywhere he wishes.

Well the guy believe in himself, I'l give him that, even tho I'm not sure it's entirely justified.
He will be leaving ±3M on the table to get a shot elsewhere.

Habs should sign him. I know we already have a lot of forwards but it's worth it to take a chance on him.

His self confidence is enticing. If he shows nothing you send him down and terminate if he won't report.

We just experienced a schism on this forum because we didn't go with the internet consensus in the draft. An unforgiveable mistake that we will never ever recover from because there is no way the consensus could ever be wrong. Like a week ago.

The challenge is the 50 contract limit and having too many forwards already.
I think Ylonen and RHP have higher upside.
