Is it part being goalies and part not getting enough quality scoring opportunities? 40 shots year but what's the xGF in this game?

They ended up with 5.67 xGF. That's one of the highest totals I've seen this year, for any team. Not every team playing the Sharks gets that many chances.

I hope the Jackets call it "winning hockey" like they did after the first few games and move on to the next one.

Edit: I'm just seeing the second half of the game now and this is real chances - Chinakhov with a clean look from the dot, Monahan with a wide open one-timer from between the hashmarks, Voronkov with that sick between the legs tip, etc.. etc.. - they were doing it right.

Wennberg danced around 3 of them and sniped it top corner.:(

It looks like he looked up ice and saw Werenski on the left and the two forwards on the right and decided to split the forwards.

This is bigger than what many of you think.

This is what the “league” thinks of Elvis. I promise you there are more “reads” they have learned.

Every time there's an interview with a guy who shot against his former goalie, he knows the spot. Maybe Helle is the only goalie who they don't have a spot on. Even Vasi has that low blocker. This is not a special thing.

Blue jackets looked better last night, i know they were playing the Sharks. a few soft calls on us didn't help. Fantilli with no puck luck ( all alone in the slot and his stick breaks LMAO! ) Elvis looked good

I don't expect creative hockey, other than the first line they are focused on vertical hockey. But it seems to me that we weren't that fast.

The power play is missing Kent Johnson.

Overall, I'm happy, if we don't make childish mistakes, on the contrary we fight, I won't say one bad word to the
team in that case.

man, looks like Arizona had more fans in the building last year than San Jose has tonight
For all the crap Arizona and the arena got, last year's game against CBJ in March had a pretty good atmosphere I thought, and it was full afaik (easier to do of course). Overall quite liked the whole arena too, despite its shortcomings. Nice city too.

I'm not fully on the bus here but players don't super often comment on the reads on goalies, not to the extent of actually saying what the read is (I mean it's not a daily occurrence, not saying it never happens). Obviously they all get the info by their scouts. The full quote from the recap:

"It's a team that bought me out, and it's kind of ironic having a little luck there, scoring against them," said Wennberg, who played for Columbus from 2014-20. "I had great memories from Columbus, so I feel like it's always fun to play against them. Obviously, scoring a goal and helping the team win, I think that's all that matters for me. At the end of the day, the one thing I know is to shoot high glove on Elvis. [I have a] little bit of tricks up my sleeve, but that's from playing against the guy for several years."

Buuuut he's Swedish so might just give a bit more juicier quotes than most players.

I have no major gripes with Elvis in this game, the defense can't let that cross-ice pass happen in the first and the second looked like a great effort by Wennberg. We need to score more.

The Wennberg thing is weird because he was not the player we wanted/needed while he was here but since he’s been gone he’s been the exact player we could use (albeit a different type of player, and you could fairly argue he was becoming that player at the time of his departure).

Not really interested in relitigating that time, because some things just are what they are, change of scenery or whatever, and I know there’s the William Karlsson thing too, but it just seems so quirky how Wenny’s career has gone.

I think other than that one post-concussion season where he was bad, Wenny always provided good value at least as a low-event responsible center who controlled play up the middle. Great skater and great defensive anticipation.

He was a former 1st rounder and modestly overpaid so he got shit on all the time. But he played a role for us and did it well most of the time. Not entirely nothing. I watched him a lot in Seattle and he never really changed much one way or the other. As our roster evolved towards more unreliable players we did start to collectively appreciate him more, that part I agree with.
