Considering everything (like 1 year until UFA, Hoffman drama, Melnyk being an idiot), I have no idea how anyone thought Karlsson would bring back anything more than he just did in a trade. You all set yourselves up for major disappointment.

Surprised Patches got Suzuki in return, but I feel that's a pretty big outlier trade. You pretty much never see big returns for superstars, especially ones who only have a year left on their contract.

I am a Sens fan but that return is terrible. My dog could have got more than that for Ottawa. I am a Sens fan but this trade has me questioning a lot of things. Nothing vs. any of the players in return but together I'm not sure any of them are equal to Karlsson.

Prob better to just hold onto him and lose him for nothing imo

Stone, too? Might as well trade them before losing them for nothing...

I can usually summon a modicum of schadenfreude for other teams' fans, but this is just too brutal. I feel badly for Sens' fans.
Is Stone a UFA next season? Ugh - this could get bad for Ottawa.

I've never seen a team get so close to the Cup finals then blow up everything. Can anyone else think of a team exploding like this? Rangers at least held on to most of their core for a few runs before turning into sellers.

At least Ottawa gets a good return. They have a nice wealth of trade chips still available to build an even stronger pool with.

Melnyk sells this rebuild like Donald sells his presidency.

Who could forget the time when that Chinese government operative gave Trump a $200,000 bribe through his family foundation. Or when Trump went vacationing on billionaire Agha Khan’s private Caribbean island in clear violation of ethics laws.

Oh wait that was Trudeau.

Why doing "allright", when you have the possibility of doing "great" ?

I can't see teams giving up a better package, which would have to include three 1sts and a 2nd +, for a player who is all but guaranteed to be a rental.

On top of that you have all the locker room and management issues in Ottawa. You can't expect a "Great" return under those circumstances.

Do you realize that if there is an extension, they get a measly 2nd round pick in addition?
Karlsson probably refused to sign an extension for any prospective team, reducing his trade value. Why would he bother to enhance his own trade value and weaken his future team?

In retrospect, Sens would probably have been better to just tell him that if he won't agree to sign an extension and enhance his trade value, the Sens will hang onto him until the trade deadline and trade him to the highest bidder on his trade list. He would probably get just as many future assets at that point, anyway, and maybe more as their might have been a few more teams bidding.

The last SJ Karlsson hasn't turned out well so here is to hoping this ones fails also, coming from a Stars fan.

That east protection is the scariest thing to me, if I'm an Ottawa fan. I refuse to believe TB didn't offer at least one piece bigger than anything involved there. Even if it wasn't Sergachev.

Looks to me like they handcuffed themselves.
I agree and mentioned that in an early post.

Ottawa is going to suck.. and suck for a good amount of time.

If you are Ottawa, why the f*** should it matter that TB wins a cup with Karlsson? If it gets you the better return just do it.

But nope, it looks like they limited their return by insisting it was out West. Also by all accounts he likely is only going to be out west for as long as he wants since he is a UFA anyways.

Why was hf telling me it would be Nylander at minimum for the leafs?

Probably cause Toronto is the last place on earth Ottawa would ever trade with? Ottawa is so insecure they even included a condition that they get an extra 1st rounder from San Jose if Karlsson plays on an eastern conference team this year. What’s your point?
