On Chicago's part, this deal screams "we just want the highest first round pick we can get in this draft". Good luck with that

The issue is they need to sign him.
Yeah. Makes sense. I see Debrincat is owed $9m this season and then will need a long-term deal, probably around $7m AAV. Got it. Seems like a win-win. Not to mention Ottawa should be pretty good this year, so it’s good for Debrincat too.

Uncharacteristic of Ottawa to open up the checkbook this way. $9 million in real $ this coming year his Qualifying offer needs to be at least $9 million, so he's probably expecting more than that on a long term.

I'm not sure he's as productive in Ottawa, he could end up being overpaid. The return should have been firsts but not 2 firsts where Ottawa usually drafts. Overall not a great deal for the Hawks but I can see it turning out bad of the Sens as well if he's only 30 goal 60 point guy earning $9+ million AAV.

I don’t understand what Chicago is doing. If you’re trying to rebuild then the most important pieces are young stars with potential like Debrincat, Strome and Dach. They should be looking at moving the older players like Kane and Jones.
