Is Chicago trying to get Toews and more likely Kane to warm up to the idea of a trade? Wasnt Toews upset at seeing Hagel go for a haul and now seeing Debrincat go for a meh at best deal?

Chicago is going scorched earth on all their 20-somethings. I guess by the time Toews and Kane were their age, they were Stanley Cup champions. Fact is, we have heard Debrincat, Dach, Strome, Kubalik's names in trade rumors ever since the new GM came in.

Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Hyman, Kapanen, Brown is one you might be familiar with.

Matthews, Marner, and Kapanen were rookies who had proven nothing (yet)
Nylander was coming off a 13pt season
Brown was coming off 6pts
Hyman was coming off 28pts

Debrincat is coming off 41 goals and 78pts
Brady is coming off 30 and 67pts
Stutzle is coming off 58pts
Norris is coming off 35 and 55 points
Batherson was almost a point per game
Formenton is coming off 18 goals and 32 points

How are these remotely comparable?

The Toronto team has the benefit of hindsight, and ended up blossoming in to a great group of players - but they were pretty much all magic beans at that time. The Ottawa group has a proven track record. Once again you missed the point and had to make it about Toronto again. At least the Oilers comparable made some sense from whoever posted it.

Do they even care at this point? They have won everything there is to win and are in their twilight years so to speak

You hope a 7th overall becomes a DeBrincat, and he's still young and the right age to be a part of Ottawa's core. Even if the deal doesn't work out, I love it for Ottawa, this is exactly the risk you take when you're in their position
Here I am hoping the 1st overall can produce as much as Debrincat.

This is one of the worst trades in recent memory. I am sorry Hawks fans, there are no words.

Cannot believe nobody had a better offer than a 7th overall and and 2nd round.....

I'm trying to understand this from a Chicago POV. DeBrincat is an electric, 40-goal scoring 24 year old who will still be an RFA in a year. Unless you're planning to rebuild for a LONG time he should be part of the plan.

Did something happen behind the scenes to make this make sense? I cannot for the life of me believe that they did this as a hockey trade.
I think Chicago realized they will be terrible for the next ~3 seasons and thought this is a good time to sell high on him, because following years there's significantly less team control due to this contract status.

Now you can argue whether this was selling high or not, but that's probably the logic.

Wow. I am always nervous when Dorion trades but this one looks good. Perhaps with Melnyk moving on Pierre had some room to move. Even if it doesn't work out it it is an exciting trade to watch develop

I guess the question is... is he a 40 goal scorer away from Kane?
I've been pondering this question for the past 2 months my friend... I'm optimistic that with Stutzle he's still at least a 30g guy, hope he can continue to hit 40 and/or be an impact player in the playoffs.

I'm think Debrincat must have some unknown baggage. Like, everyone knows he wants to be a UFA ASAP and just get the biggest possible paycheck. Or he's an alcoholic. Or some deep character flaw...

I claim no inside knowledge. This just can't be the best offer unless the kid is "damaged goods" somehow.
