Think there's a few reasons -
1. Debrincat is a RFA who's going to command a huge contract. Usually the second those deals are signed it's hard to trade them.
2. They don't believe Debrincat brings enough value for what he brings given his next contract will be $8-9 mil
3. They want to tank and they really like a prospect in the upcoming draft.
It's not the value that people were expecting, but I kind of think Debrincat is a bit overrated. Insanely skilled and one of the best goal scorers in the league, but he's also the type of player that has a harder time come playoffs unless he's the the 2nd/3rd wheel on the line.
By now it's clear that the only fanbase that can get away with such statements is the Blue Jackets. Because Kekalainen.another high profile player that returns less than what the fans of that team thought...who would've thunk it?!
The guy scored 40g why does his size matter?
The sens are a unproven version of flordia Panthers at the moment.Debrincat: 24yrs old
Batherson: 24
Norris: 23
Tkachuk: 22
Formenton: 22
Stutzle: 20
Not trying to be a homer but.... is this the best top 6 forward group U-25 ever in the NHL? I mean... it has to be at least since the cap era.. right?
Way they're going they may have a couple top 10 picks, wonder if one of or both Toews and Kane are moved to ensure a top 3 pick?If you get a top 5 pick in next years draft, you're in great shape.
The Sens still have holes (partner for Chabot/Sanderson, and is Forsberg legit?), but yeah - it's nice to see the top 6 we may have locked in for years to come, finally come together. The sens are a unproven version of flordia Panthers at the moment.
Unproven/less experienced version
Flordia had a great season in the reg before a disappointing playoff run.
The sens offense looks very good, can't lie. I see them battling Boston for wildcard 1 and 2 next year.
Think the Atlantic takes 5 and the metro 3 (pens, Canes, rangers)
So is toews and kame big trade deadline bait?
Unless I'm getting things wrong, his QO is 9M. So his next deal will almost certainly start with a 9. Or a 1.
Isnt Debrincat owed a $10M qualifying offer?

That is an awesome group, but I think I'd try to temper my expectations until they are all signed beyond 2023. Either way, even if they lose 1 or 2 in order to add some studs on defense, that is a great starting block for the Sens to turn the franchise around.Debrincat: 24yrs old

Well, yeah, should that be Debrindcat's deal, he's UFA.9m x 1 is a lot less than 8m x 8.
