Simple really is best. You can see from the photos that opposing teams like the Eagles and Lions also had simple uniforms and helmets; I have no idea where people actually dig the **** that is the Seahawks uniforms or any of the other crap teams out there (Tampa Bay, etc.).

Today, the only remnants you see from that era are Dallas, Green Bay, etc. Nice, simple colors and themes. Can't match the 1960s for the best uniforms and helmets ever in the NFL/AFL.

I'm always a supporter of the simpler uniforms, but I do like the Seahawks uniforms.

I especially like the all grey "Wolf Grey" uniforms, because it reminds me of one of my favorite car colors - nardo grey.

Eagles will be even better with these beauties

I loved the Rams' old blue and white, but they got into the custom of wearing their white uniforms at home after the mid- to late-'60s (pic below).

Interesting tidbit of why the Rams went from blue and yellow in the '50s to blue and white in the '60s: I read it somewhere or heard on TV they thought that dark blue and white would look much better on black and white TVs that predominated households during that time.

Makes sense.

They went to the blue and gold in 1973, as I recall, when the swing to color TVs were predominating households...and those sucked when compared to blue and white, in my opinion.

i

That can't be Roman Gabriel because he still has the ball.

the blue / white looks awesome. - Altough I also like the blue / yellow just as much.

1. Haha, Butch are you old enough to remember Roman Gabriel? I loved the guy, but he couldn't get us to the promised land. He was on the Rams 10 years, hard to believe. I have his rookie card from 1963 (somewhere).

2. The blue and gold was just ok in my book. Actually like their present configuration, but never will like them more than these classic blue and whites.

I didn't know that, but it does make sense. I think the Eagles were the only team to do that, ever...and they did it only for one season.

Alot of teams would wear different helmets with retro jerseys but now they have to re-decal them I think

Their current logo is not fit for an NFL team. A middle school squad funded by a pizzeria and real estate agent? Possibly. Not an NFL team.

Pittsburgh is allowed to wear gold helmets with their gold retro unis and that is just one example of a team that can wear different helmets for complete and accurate retro looks but I was commenting on their normal uniform configuration and that only one helmet is allowed for that.

Having grown up in Roman Gabriel's prime, which 1990s pro athlete would you compare him to, for everyone else's understanding?

Also, this is the school mascot of Vin Scully's alma mater. :snide:

It's ok. I think it's a turn on the logo they had in the 1950s and 1960s:

And in the 1940s (Cleveland Rams logo): (Okay, so graphics artistry isn't what it is today...)

Honestly do not understand why "sportslogos" web site is asterisk'd. Maybe someone can give me a clue. Jesus H. Christ. Will edit it using an uploaded image...chrissake.

Ah good question, don't readily know the answer to...but I can tell you the most impressive thing about Roman Gabriel was his ability to shake defensive lineman off to avoid a sack. He was 6'3" 200 lbs. as I recall and a big quarterback for his day, and strong...and the defensive lineman guys in those days were good, don't get me wrong, but they didn't spend all day and night in the gym, if you get my drift.

He would stand up in the pocket and shake off defenders and get the pass away. Strong guy with a strong arm; and for whatever reason couldn't win a playoff game to save his ****ing life.

The bolded part reminds me too much of Tony Romo, and this is coming from a Packers fan! :help:

Why do NFL logos face sideways?

Not all do. The old Boston/New England Patriots had a helmet emblem that faced forward.

That's all I can remember off the top of my head. I don't know the answer to your question, but I guess it arises out of the fact that the majority of the helmet's side is where the fans will get the most exposure, so it lends itself to sideways logos.

Plus you have teams like the Rams, Vikings, and Eagles where horns/wings naturally follow to be emblazoned on a helmet.

Yes, Roman Gabriel was my first Rams qb. Then John Hadl was gonna change the world, then James Harris, Pat Haden, Jim Everett, and... Vince Ferragamo. I drive by Ferragamo's real estate office once in a while in Anaheim Hills, and I always think about what was almost there...

And if Nolan Cromwell had hung onto the ball in SB 14. They had pittsburgh beat. Terry Bradshaw was a great qb, but he is also one of the luckiest.

I like when the current Rams wear their "old" blue / yellow / white design. I do not like their current colors (and logo) at all, and would never buy them if they ever come back to town.

Both the blue and gold are too muted. And gold?? as bad as what the penguins wear.

Thank god, the Dodgers aren't on the Papelbon's list of teams he'll accept a trade to. This guy's a locker room cancer, and the Dodgers should stay far away from this turd.

And although the Dodgers haven't done much to improve their team, I do believe IF they traded Puig, it will improve team chemistry. And, that's a good thing.

Agreed, that was the whole ball game right there, he goes in to score the TD to break the Steelers' back.
